Old Waverley

"My friend and I stayed at the Old Waverly September 23-25 and then September 28 to October 1. Just a bit of a warning before you stay there - lots of stairs to get into the lobby/registration area and then a couple to get to the elevator. Both rooms had street views, but the noise level wasn't bad. The staff was wonderful! They helped us with our bags from the bottom of the stairs to the lobby and then up to our room. They allowed us to store our bigger bags for 4-nights when we went on a tour to the Highlands areas. The buffet breakfast was typical - nothing outstanding, but filling. They also served lunch and dinner which my friend and I took advantage of several times. Their food was really quite good. The "restaurant/bar" staff were all very nice and polite. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. Considering we were across from Scott Memorial, I'm guessing the price was worth it as we were in prime location for new town area. All in all a good place to stay!"

"The strong point is undoubtedly the location; in fact, the property is located on the famous and central shopping street of Princess Street, less than a 10-minute walk from the Royal Mile and with the bus to the airport right in front. The staff is very friendly and kind with 24-hour reception. Disappointing breakfast... little choice for those who want the classic continental breakfast. Bathroom with reduced dimensions and assigned room different from the one in the photo. Overall a good hotel but the quality/price ratio is not competitive."

"We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in September. The windows do not block out sound from the street and on our first night it was garbage pickup night. We heard delivery trucks, garbage trucks and smashing glass at various hours of the night. Also, sometime around 4-5 am a delivery truck came to drop off scaffolding for the building next door as it is being renovated. It was the worst night ever while staying at a hotel. When I mentioned what a terrible experience we had to the employees at the front desk the next day they just shrugged their shoulders and said we can’t control the street noise or garbage pick up day. That wasn’t normal city street noise. Our second night was better, still heard street noise but it settled down around 10 pm. Our two nights with breakfast included was over $500 GBP, so it wasn’t cheap. Overall based on our experience, location was very close to Waverley train station which was handy, breakfast was ok ( could use more variety), we experienced street noise because of the old windows and the room was very clean and the beds were comfy. If the slow elevator was fixed and the windows were updated this hotel would be a great choice for travellers."
