"My wife and I have stayed at this hotel quite a few times and a few trips earlier had problems with windows and no hot water but this did not put us off.
Staff were really friendly on arrival as usual but when we opened our door to a Club Executive Room (cost of £400 per night this time of year) we was greeted with a threadbare carpet.
The armchair was covered in stains, it had rips in it and was also threadbare in parts.
At this point I decided to check out the bathroom, on the way to it was 3 other places of threadbare carpet and also paw prints at the end of the bed.
The taps in the sink were dirty, the base of the taps had some sort of brown, sticky substance around it.
I checked the cups to find one still had a layer of toothpaste in the bottom.
Finally I decided to do something I had never done before and check the toilet to find a pebble dashed toilet ( correct, human poo)
I went down to see the manager who was clearly disturbed by the pictures I was showing him, he even said so in an email that he sent me.
The manager offered us the last room that he had available which was smaller than the disgustingly grubby one that my wife was still sat in, looking online for available rooms in other hotels.
He did offer us a bottle of prosecco which I took as an insult.
On the second day there, the rooms were not cleaned, no new towels were left, now considering we could not use the older towels because we used these to stop water coming from the shower screen flooding the floor.
My wife went to reception to ask for new towels, she was told someone would come up to our room with them, my wife had to go back down to reception after 45 minutes to ask again as we were going into town very soon.
I asked the manager if that was a £50/£100 B&B would the state of that room be acceptable, he said “no” so I asked why have we been sent to a £400 per night boutique hotel room in that state.
We are not free loaders, we don’t complain at the slightest problems, we have been here many times before but we have been offered a £100 voucher and a free meal for two.
We are not rich people, this is a treat for us this time of the year as we go to the military tattoo, this hotel is not cheap!
We don’t eat or drink here because we find the tables grubby.
A voucher simply means we have to throw more money towards it in the hope that we get a clean room. I thought the offer of 2 nights in a standard double or a small reimbursement would be sufficient.
The manager will come on here and say he is sorry and that the room will be sorted but in January this year someone put a review on here complaining about threadbare carpets and a stained armchair on the same floor we was on, this means that it’s the same room and nothing has been done to fix the problems in 8 months or there is at least another room in the same condition.Disgusting"
