"We stayed here for 4 nights. The location was exactly what we were looking for – right in the city centre, with everything within walking distance, making it a great base for exploring Edinburgh.
The room was very small, but since we only needed somewhere to sleep after spending the day sightseeing, it suited our needs. If you're looking for a hotel where you can relax and spend time in the room, this probably isn't the right choice.
Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. The selection was very limited, and I was surprised there were no eggs at all. It mainly consisted of pastries, fruit, toast, butter, cereals, and muesli. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I had very few options, and I think this should be made clearer before booking. On the positive side, tea and coffee were available throughout the day, which was a nice extra.
Housekeeping is only provided on request, so don't expect daily cleaning or fresh towels unless you ask. We didn't mind this approach, but the bathroom bin was tiny and filled up quickly, so we had to request it to be emptied and ask for clean towels.
There were a couple of things we really liked. The hairdryer in the room was excellent and dried my hair much faster than most hotel hairdryers. We also loved the control panel next to the bed, which lets you operate the lights and other room features without getting up. Despite the small room size, it was surprisingly quiet—we never heard any noise from neighbouring rooms, which made for a good night's sleep.
Overall, I'd say the 3-star rating is accurate. Keep your expectations realistic—this is a practical hotel if your main goal is to explore the city rather than spend time at the hotel. Edinburgh is an expensive destination, and this was one of the more affordable options we found. Even so, I still felt it was a little overpriced for the facilities and level of service provided."
