Apex Grassmarket Hotel

"We booked this hotel because of location and recommendation from a friend. Top marks for location in the heart of Edinburgh and walking distance to many of the popular locations (Victoria Street, Royal Mile, Greyfriars Bobby, Train Station). The room was comfortable and big enough with fridge and smart tv however we did have an issue with the shower flooding the whole bathroom (this was an accessible room which we did not book). A few other niggles that we had were resolved. We felt the rooms were a little tired and a revamp was probably needed but fine for the two nights we spent there. Smart tv was useful and we did use the casting function. Lots of unnecessary wardrobe space if you need it! We would return again based on location alone but would book a castle view."

"Stayed with teenage daughter for two nights. We had a family room so a bed each. Bathroom was small for a family room. Curtains had seen better days. Great location. The Sunday night we couldn’t get food in the restaurant as they had tour groups eating in there. The breakfast is ok. Good menu for hot food choices but quality of ingredients is poor. The cocktails in the bar were disappointing. Cosmo came with lemon and tasted of lemon instead of lime and orange. Hardly any cranberry juice. Pornstar martini lacked passionfruit! Came with orange. Both didn’t taste correctly and you’re paying high prices for cocktails! The black bull across the road does great cocktails. You’re paying a premium for this hotel because the location is great. The rest could be improved. Lots of reviews say this hotel is noisy. The great location is in the hub of the action so yes there is bound to be noise from outside. Not sure id stay again as not good value for money."

"Stayed at this hotel as a family of 4 for 2 nights. The only good things going for it are the location which is excellent and the staff were very good. The hotel has no air conditioning in the rooms and even though the temperature outside was max 20 degrees the temperature inside was unbearable. Had to have the window open and the noise outside meant a night with no sleep at all. The bathroom was very off-putting with mould stains and generally looked grubby. There were also Stains on carpet and curtains. The hotel needs updating and then it might warrant the over £300 per night rate!"
