"We I arrived at reception around 19:00 on a very cold, winter’s night having reserved a twin room and were initially allocated room 115. On opening the door, a cold blast of air greeted us - the windows had been left wide open by the cleaning staff and the room was freezing; not surprising as the outside temperature was just 1C. Being too cold to even take off our coats, we returned to reception and requested an alternative room. We were then allocated room 223. Here again, the room was cold despite the windows being closed. The air conditioning was not working despite the control indicating that it was set to 26C. We again returned to reception and asked for yet another room in the hope that it would be warm with a working air conditioning unit. We were then given room 223 but sadly found that one window was open and could not be easily closed and, yet again, the air conditioning unit was not providing any heat. We thus returned to the reception and this time requested to see the manager. The manager said that he would investigate and returned some ten minutes later stating that he had managed to close the window and activate the air conditioning adding that he had also put an electric heater in the room to try to warm it up more quickly. Thus, some 30 minutes or so after our arrival, we were finally able to stay in our room and start to relax but not for long! At 5am the fire alarm sounded and an automated announcement said that we should evacuate the hotel immediately - not a pleasant thought at that hour; made worse by the outside temperature being literally freezing. This alarm caused significant confusion amongst the guests, not least because no member of staff appeared to be managing the issue and we had to rely on other guests to tell us that it had been a false alarm that that it was safe to return to our rooms. On checking out later that morning, it was disappointing not to be offered an apology for the disruption caused by the false alarm prior to us raising the issue. Even a notice apologising to guests and explaining the cause would have been better than nothing. Finally, we must comment on the quality and variety of food at breakfast which has slowly deteriorated over the past few years. This is most disappointing. A good breakfast is an essential start to the day. Sadly, cost cutting has had a negative impact and so now we can only describe the breakfast offering as average as opposed to the excellent that it once was."

"I had an accessible wheelchair room which was good. Breakfast was tasty. On Xmas Eve and Xmas Day bar shut at 8pm with no option for residents to order from room service... We were effectively forced to go to bed at 8pm on a holiday. Staff seemed unsure of bar/ breakfast times and had to keep asking managers, staff didn't know what was happening and they should have been told. Lift smelled foul. Accessible toilet near function room is unsuitable for wheelchair user, a wheelchair cannot turn when inside so impossible to use the facilities. A yellow floor cleaning sign also got stuck under my chair, trapping me in the corridor for several minutes."

"Unfortunately my travel to Westhill was delayed so i was in a rush when I arrived, check in was fast by a nice receptionist explaining everything about the hotel. I was on the second floor. The room was spacious and clean as was the bathroom. I tried the restaurant for dinner the menu seemed extensive but being in a hurry I was only able to have one course. I couldn't figure out how to work the heating in the room, the display gauge was very confusing and the fan seemed to be on constant which I didn't need! I couldn't figure out how to turn off the bedside lights either, couldn't find a switch anywhere so had to pull the room card out of the pocket which wouldn't have been any use had there been a fire! Breakfast was enjoyable and plentiful. I will use this hotel again as it is opposite the venue I was at!"
