"The photos online make this hotel look charming, welcoming, and well-maintained. At first glance, the hotel did seem lovely. When we arrived, the bellmen greeted us promptly and took our bags so we could check in, and the front desk staff were very friendly.
Unfortunately, that is where the positive experience ended.
When we exited the elevator on our floor, I was immediately disappointed by the condition of the hallways. The woodwork was badly banged up, and while I understand the hotel may have history and character, the actual condition of the property did not match the polished photos shown online.
Our room was extremely disappointing and in desperate need of maintenance and deep cleaning. The furniture was worn and unstable; even placing a water bottle on the nightstand caused it to lean to one side. We found a dirty sock left on the floor from a previous guest, the toilet was dirty, the mirror was old and deteriorating, the molding and trim were cracked, and there appeared to be black mold. We also discovered a very unpleasant stain on one of the chairs in the room.
The restaurant experience was also far from acceptable. After traveling all day, we went downstairs to eat and found the service to be disorganized and slow. There appeared to be little to no management presence or direction. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, with no clear ownership of which tables they were serving. We waited more than 40 minutes for three appetizers, and when we asked about the status of the food, it was brought out cold. It seemed likely the food had been sitting ready and simply was not picked up.
The one bright spot was two lovely women working at the hotel who were surveying guests about their experience. I appreciated the opportunity to share our concerns with them directly, and they were kind and professional.
Overall, the cleanliness, maintenance, and service issues were unacceptable. The online photos do not accurately reflect the current condition of the property, and I would not recommend staying here."
