"🛏️ ROOM QUALITY
Cleanliness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Clean, but very basic. There are quite a few visible stains on the walls and carpet, which detract from the overall impression. That said, the essentials are well maintained - the bed, sheets, shower, and sink were all properly clean, which is what matters most.
⸻
🎨 Aesthetics: ⭐⭐
Simple and uninspired. The colour palette sticks to beige, greys, and wood tones - not offensive, but not particularly inviting either. The room feels a bit tired and occasionally gloomy.
Lighting is a notable weak point. While it initially appears varied, it’s difficult to control and ends up feeling very “all or nothing.” The reading lights are especially harsh, which doesn’t help with relaxation or sleep quality.
⸻
🛌 Comfort and Noise: ⭐⭐
Noise is a major issue here. Novotel doesn’t seem to prioritise soundproofing or enforcing reasonable noise levels. I’ve experienced similar issues at other branches (notably Novotel London Greenwich), and this stay was no different.
The air conditioning does work in this location (which hasn’t always been the case elsewhere), but it’s extremely loud — to the point where it’s not really usable overnight.
I checked in around 3pm and had already changed rooms by 9pm due to constant disruption — children running through corridors, shouting, and doors slamming repeatedly. I moved rooms preemptively to avoid a sleepless night, based on past experience, but noise remained a concern.
⸻
📺 Room Tech Features: ⭐
Very little to mention here. A standard TV is included (though I didn’t use it), but beyond that there are no notable tech features or modern touches.
⸻
🛁 Bathroom: ⭐⭐⭐
One of the stronger aspects of the room. Clean, functional, and generally well maintained. The lighting strikes a good balance - warm but still bright enough to be practical - and water pressure was solid.
However, there were two questionable reddish-brown smears on the toilet seat and the floor, which was off-putting.
There were also some inconsistencies between rooms. My first room included two bathrobes (a great touch), but these were missing from the second room despite it being an identical twin.
Another detail worth mentioning, and something that’s a bit of an industry open secret, is that the “Rituals” toiletries provided don’t appear to be genuine Rituals products, but rather refilled containers. The difference in quality is noticeable and feels like a slightly misleading cost-cutting measure.
On a more positive note, the bath plug actually worked properly — something that’s surprisingly rare — so it was nice to have a fully functional bath for once.

🤝 SERVICE
Staff Friendliness & Efficiency: ⭐⭐
Check-in here is consistently slow. This time it took 28 minutes, with a visibly frustrated queue both ahead of and behind me. Queue management was lacking, with guests cutting in line without intervention.
That said, Jeff on reception was excellent... accommodating, understanding, and genuinely helpful when resolving the room change.
He stood out as one of the only consistently warm and friendly staff members. In contrast, others came across as disengaged, creating an inconsistent experience.
For example, I was told milk alternatives weren’t available at reception, only to receive them from the bar without issue later - unnecessarily unhelpful!?
Room cleaning during a gym visit (around 90 minutes) was handled perfectly. However, response times elsewhere were poor, a request for tea and sugar took 70 minutes, with unanswered calls in between.
⸻
🏋️ OUTSIDE ROOM AMENITIES
Gym: ⭐⭐⭐
A strong feature of the hotel. Bright, spacious, and filled with natural light and genuinely enjoyable to use. Good mix of cardio and weights, though the weights area would feel cramped with more than two people.
Only two mats available, which could be limiting, but fine during quieter times.
⸻
🍸 Breakfast & Bar: ⭐⭐⭐
Bar staff were friendly and accommodating, even providing milk alternatives free of charge - a nice touch.
Didn’t fully explore the food offering, so this would need revisiting.
⸻
📍 LOCATION
🚇 Transport Links: ⭐⭐⭐
Hammersmith is slightly further out from central hotspots, but still well connected via Tube and buses.
Expect around an hour to reach places like Bond Street...manageable, but not ideal.
⸻
🔒 Safety: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Generally a safe area with no major concerns.
⸻
🌆 Vibe: ⭐⭐
Not a huge amount going on locally. Around the station, the atmosphere can feel a bit mixed.
That said, the hotel itself is large and busy enough that you can remain anonymous and undisturbed, ideal for a low-key stay.
⸻
💸 VALUE FOR MONEY
Final Conclusion: ⭐⭐⭐
Overall, decent value for money - especially if you’re okay with commuting and a more basic stay.
The positives (price, gym, and a handful of great staff) help balance out the drawbacks, particularly noise issues, tired interiors, and inconsistent service.
