Novotel London Tower Bridge

"This was the sixth time we have stayed at this hotel in as many years and the only time we have not booked through Secret Escapes. We had an Executive Room for three nights and this time we were rather disappointed with the hotel. The room - which had no view - was very drab - grey and brown - and rather soulless - just one brown/olive green mural and no other artworks, any colourful scatter cushions or a bed runner. We felt that there is a lot of cost cutting being dressed up as the brand being environmentally friendly. We didn’t need or have our sheets or towels changed but surely part of the experience of staying in a (not cheap) hotel is having your room made up and cleaned with coffee and tea replenished (there weren’t even any biscuits). If we’d said we didn’t want housekeeping [because it’s better for the environment], we’d presumably not had this done. Are they simply trying to employ fewer housekeeping staff? The lack of a separate bathroom wall makes the room larger but doesn’t provide any privacy (even after being together over 35 years there are times when privacy is wanted!). Breakfast was a good buffet with a small gluten free selection which I appreciated as a coeliac. I was brought GF toast and croissants and could request separately cooked hot food which was lovely. We went to the bar one night but ended up taking our drinks to our room as the place was dead; the first time we’ve seen this. The bar staff were also clearly ready to go home despite it not being closing time. The location is superb and that is why we have regularly returned to this hotel but we now won’t be rushing back as it seems to have lost its way and most certainly wasn’t value for money this time."
