Grand Royale London Hyde Park

"The foyer of the hotel is lovely. Our room was deluxe but far from it. Very small and basic. No usb ports no iron 4 coat hangers. But it was clean. Breakfast was average but the broken toaster wasnt the best. Its a shame as in a good position. Staff friendly enough. I suppose you get what you pay for."

"Well I had high expectations of the Grand Royale. Even it's name makes you think that's what you're going to get from a Hotel that is just off Hyde Park. Even as you walk in you have that feeling that it's going to be a lovely stay. Well on this instance first impressions can be deceiving. Our room was 617 and when we opened the door we were greeted with the unmistakable smell of urine!!! The room stank!! I returned downstairs and explained that we couldn't stay in the room allocated, which was supposedly a "superior double"!!! As you can see the room was beige, carpet was stained, bald in places. Didn't fully fit the room. The walls were marked, the ensuite floor tiles cracked, the door jab split, Aircon filthy, and the wardrobe wasn't even full length so you couldn't hang dresses in it!!!!? The bedroom was 3m x 3m making it 9sqm. The photo showed a clean white room with purple accents and quite spacious. The receptionist changed our room to the one next door 618. When I showed her the picture of the room I had expected with it's title of "superior double" she explained that the photo was actually of their club rooms??? So the picture is misselling and misleading. Rm618 was smaller than 617 as the wardrobe couldn't even be fitted beside the bedside table beside the bed!!! It was straight in front of you as you walked into the room!!! The next morning breakfast was a disaster. We had to queue for over 10 mins to be given a table. There clearly wasn't enough staff on, and those that were on couldn't fully clear a table, they would only take a couple of things at a time. They couldn't even lay up the table fully!!! We managed to get a plate of full English, but the pastries had gone, and as for the "fruit juice" it was the cheapest of cheap "fruit juice drink" there was barely any "juice" in it, and quite frankly shouldn't be anywhere near a Four Star Hotel breakfast buffet!!!! All I can say is I'm glad we only booked one night"
