"I will start off by saying that even though there were a few things that needed a little improvement , overall this was a really good place to stay especially if you are travelling with other adults and using it as a base to sleep and explore the city. Brilliant not only for cavern quarter but also 15 mins walk either way and you could be at the docks or Lime street station so a great base.
Beds were comfy, room was clean and although basic had everything you needed including great toiletries and a hair dryer and sperate toilet and shower room . It offered great value for money and I would definitely consider going back and using again if I was in the area.
As I was travelling alone with my son I had specifically picked somewhere I felt we could spend some time doing things without having to go out if needed after busy days.
Had booked on basis of food being available in the bar so didn't have to take my son out at night in such a busy area if we didn't want to. According to website and the venues webapp there was food available on site but when we asked we were informed we couldn't get food there which was disappointing. Wouldn't have been a negative if this wasn't included in info and expected.
I had also anticipated being able to stay in and play games together as this was specifically listed as a selling point however this was very limited with taboo, trivial pursuit and dominoes available. Dominoes was really the only thing two could play / suitable for children and had pieces missing . Not a big thing but disappointing again that it's listed a selling point but then not really available practically. Would be really easy to rectify with cheap playing cards, Jenga, connect four etc for little cost or again take it off the facilities list so then it wouldn't feel missing
There was also some confusion around the breakfast which was included on booking.com. I knew from reviews that this would only be a to go bag and that people had experienced confusion so on arrival messaged to ask about getting this and the reply (which I worked out afterwards was an auto response but didn't know that at the time) said no breakfast was available and recommended a local cafe. It was only because I messaged again and said but I've got it included and got another stock response to say breakfasts were not available that I realised it was auto-generated . I did then get a response from a staff member with the correct info about going down to reception each morning to collect a bag, still a little confusion on the first morning with the initial staff member not being aware of this and needing to find someone else. We did get it in the end though .
The automatic light in the shower room goes off too quickly. Neither myself or son stay in ages just doing the essentials and by the time I got to conditioner every time it went off. Plunging room into pitch blackness . Eventually worked out to get it back on had to wave arm above shower cubicle door but unfortunately the first time it happened it was my son in there with door locked . He did get it back on eventually but could be really disorientating and dangerous for others and I imagine just needs setting to stay on longer for safety.
Overall a good stay and now that I know what to expect it wouldn't stop me using it again but I would come with clearer expectations and understand what was available . Don't plan to stay here in an evening with food and games and you won't be disappointed ."
