"NOT A SAFE PLACE, ESP. FOR WOMEN! I have never been treated the way my partner and I were Wed night/early Thurs am (15/16 July). It was a nearly 30 degree day and we were traveling with our senior dog who doesn't do well in the heat. We called the reservation number and selected 1 to make a reservation. The gentlemen who assisted said there was a room, took our payment info, even held me on the line while he called the hotel front desk to confirm the air con was working. Thrilled, we canceled our AirBnB and headed over to the hotel. After a long, hot day of train travel and now across the city centre, at nearly 2am, we were happy to be arriving. My partner said "Hiya, we're here to check in." To which the man at the front said "We're full, we have nothing available." No hello, no small talk, just a blunt "we're full." We smiled, and my partner politely responded, "oh we just spoke with someone on the phone a bit ago," thinking maybe the system hadn't updated yet or something. Instead, he rudely cut her off and said "woah woah woah, you're coming in hot" and told us to "slow down." We were shocked. I was speechless. She again tried to politely explain we'd just called, and that someone had called to make sure the air con was working, he cut her off and began absolutely berating us for not "calling him directly." Evidently if you choose 3 to amend an existing reservation when calling the line (even if you don't have an existing reservation), it will send you to the hotel front desk. His demeanor and tone were appalling. I turned to leave as I had started to cry at this point. My partner confirmed that there were no rooms so there's nothing that could be done and they would not charge our card. Now with nowhere to go - it was the big golf tournament, there was nothing else available that had air con and was dog-friendly - it being 2am in a strange city, with a senior dog getting ready to overheat. We sat in front of the hotel for another 30 minutes calling every hotel in the area, to no avail. I tried to call the Hampton reservation line back to talk to the original man who took the reservation but hit 3 instead of 1 (as it was an existing reservation technically) and was sent back to the rude guy at the front desk, who AGAIN launched into berating me about how stupid we were for calling the wrong line and said "don't worry, I'm not gonna charge your card." Lo and behold, I am currently looking at a £357 charge on my card today! We ended up sleeping at the train station for an hour and just catching the next train home. I would be so incredibly embarrassed if I were the owners of this establishment."
