"I have stayed here many times over the years, perfect location for the town and train station and is always our hotel of choice when visiting Bristol.
Had a lovely warm welcome from the lady on reception, but then all of the hotel staff are polite and friendly. Our room as usual was clean, comfortable bed, nice shower and excellent air-con which was a God send during the heatwave, and not forgetting the room was cleaned immaculately daily.
So why didn't I give the hotel five stars. Firstly it was the same as my previous visit two years ago the hotel seems to give coach tours priority and preferential treatment. My reason for saying this twice the bar was closed on this visit to non tour groups guests, we were so looking forward to having a wine on the terrace before heading in to town but we were not allowed. When you can use the bar it is a lovely experience to start or finish your evening, very comfortable and sociable polite staff.
Second reason and I did see a review to say that breakfast was chaos, it wasn't chaos but was correct that items such a bagels, breads, muffins had all run out and not replaced. Eggs were made to order, but if you stand in the breakfast queue waiting you just cause a bottleneck, if you move away then someone else will take your eggs. Silly things like salt cellars were empty I had to go round five empty tables to find one that worked, tables not cleaned or half dressed . Too much talking and standing around from staff, and there is a blind spot where they congregate. Added to this whilst in my moaning mood the coffee machine is at the end of the hot breakfast service, another bottle neck, I'm sure it used to be in the bar area last time.
Breakfast wasn't a pleasant experience a couple of days, don't get me wrong quality of the food is excellent, but it was very disorganized.
Will I come back, of course I will, but please give a bit more consideration to non tour guests ."
