"Got a 4 night out of season bargain break (including flights and breakfast) and was amazing value for money. And use of great pool / sauna / steamroom. Approx 15 minute easy walk to / from centre. Note if you have limited mobility and arriving with suitcases the driveway up to the hotel is quite steep and probably better to arrive by Taxi. Restaurant is good, a fraction pricy, but it is an exotic 4 start hotel/restaurant. [update - there is a reasonably priced simple fish and chips option etc]"

"Apart from a disappointing first night, our stay improved significantly. While our fellow travellers were allocated lovely rooms, we were less fortunate, ending up in what felt like the servants’ quarters, tucked under a staircase, where footsteps overhead woke us at 04:00. The bathroom was so narrow, that even Hobbits would have struggled! To their credit, management responded to our concerns and moved us to a much better room for the remainder of our stay. Dinner was another slight disappointment. Due partly to an oversight on our part when booking, only three portions of Chateaubriand were available, leaving the rest of our party to choose alternatives. Unfortunately, the sea bass ordered by one of us was overcooked and completely dry. On a very positive note, all the staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful, from the chambermaids to the bar and restaurant teams. The reception staff were particularly knowledgeable, and a special mention goes to Tony for his excellent timekeeping and skilful driving of the courtesy bus to and from town. Apart from these initial setbacks, the rest of our stay was very enjoyable. The spa and pool facilities were exceptional, as was the breakfast."

"The hotel is located some distance from the city centre. The terrain is fairly flat and we walked it in twenty five minutes (we are elderly), but the hotel provides a shuttle bus if you prefer to save your legs. This place is showing its age, but is still a good place to stay and we were pleased with our choice. We had a pleasant, well appointed room and a comfortable bed. We did find the room a bit chilly (the central heating was turned off), but a portable electric heater was provided on request and we were soon feeling cosy. The bathroom was definitely dated, but nice and clean. Breakfast was good, with a good selection of hot and cold dishes on offer. We had dinner in the restaurant on two consecutive nights and would not recommend it. The food was average and the prices high."
