"Visited this hotel , 5 times previously , and 3 times in the last 4 years, I try to be fair with my reviews and feel well placed to review Alvaro again .
We will always have a soft spot for Alvaro , it was good to see the fire safety upgrades, fire escape and hoses . We felt the pool area was cleaner than last year , the new sun beds are definitely an improvement on last year , however there seems to us that ,there are fewer of them , 4-5 missing by the bar as you come in , and a row by the toilets were missing , this led to people not being able to get sunbeds , when it started to get busy in our second week . Sunbeds reserving got worse and worse as our holiday went on , we believe starting as early as 6.30 am , I have included pics of sunbed reserving 9 am ish most taken , no one about ( in the end it became if you can’t beat them join em 😂).
The rooms over the years have had a lick of paint , and the bathrooms have been updated , but they are basic and a bit tired , kitchen equipment is next to none , we had no intention of cooking but decided to warm something up , it was impossible to tell wether hob was on ,as the ‘on’ indicator light had fallen inside , when we tried to turn it off the fuse board tripped, didn’t touch it after that .
Cleaners were great with what they had to work with , Bar staff friendly enough . Pool table was free , there was a charge last year .
Couple of gripes , for the first 13 nights , the music starts round the pool at 10 am just gets louder and louder til 6.30 , the volumes got ridiculous, you couldn’t get away from , it was in the room , on the way to the shops , there was no escape ( AirPods with noice cancellation, the only option), it’s a family hotel not an 18-30 holiday , unfortunately this led us to not eating lunch at the bar as we normally do , as we didn’t want our lunch in the middle of a disco , ( we went to Rush Bar , over the road and were looked after superbly, never had a bad meal there day or night , over the years )however on our last day , when the hotel seemed to be at capacity the volume seemed to be reduced .
We messaged ahead about safe and aircon and were told safe £28 for two weeks and air con £8 a
day so 14 x 8 £112.00 + £28.00. = £140.00 however when we went to pay the calculator came out , it seemed to get converted into lira then back to sterling, and was then told it’s £148 something, I said I’m paying sterling £ 140 should cover it , I was told no it’s £148 , couldn’t be bothered arguing after that.
Summing up we’ve had some great times staying at Alvaro, but we’re either getting too old or perhaps Alvaro is just not for us anymore. Most guests are returning guests so there’s obviously something there , don’t let this review put you off but we probably won’t return."
