Menorcan countryside dream
Fontenille Menorca – Torre Vella Hotel is here to make all your country-house-summer dreams come true. This grand estate is tailor-made for roving – get lost amongst the acreage as you ramble past olive groves and vineyards all the way to the cliffs that hug the Mediterranean.
With a former watchtower at its heart, this finca is bursting at the seams with rustic charm – think whitewashed walls, bleached wood tones, and touches of limestone. But don’t let the rustic appearance fool you, there’s nothing rough and ready about this place. From the Mediterranean menu in the restaurant that spotlights local produce to the dreamy pool scene, expect careful curation and thoughtful details around every corner.

Hotel highlights
Farm-to-fork is the idea at Siempreviva, with a menu that highlights the local suppliers on the island – literally, they’re listed in the menu. As for the actual food, expect a real celebration of classic Menorcan and Spanish flavours, with just the right amount of contemporary spin. Feast on Menorcan red prawn croquettes, sharing plates of paella, and catch of the day fresh from the Mediterranean.
For something truly special, you can dine out under the stars in the vineyard. Book yourself a spot at the twice-weekly barbecue – where the chef turns out grilled-to-perfection fare – and see if you can spot your favourite constellation. Menorca is a designated Starlight Reserve, so on clear nights you can expect a blanket of twinkly lights overhead.
Secluded is very much the vibe here. It certainly helps with the tranquil vibes when you feel miles away from anything. The truth is civilisation is never far away – it just feels like it is. Son Bou – with its three-kilometre stretch of beach – is less than 15 minutes’ drive away in one direction, while sleepy Cala’n Porter in just a few minutes further in the other.
You’ll be within shouting distance of the sister finca Santa Ponsa, too, which is tucked away in its own 100 hectares just a few minutes north of Torre Vella. A complimentary shuttle whizzes back and forth between the two, meaning you’ll have ample opportunity to sample the spoils of the Santa Ponsa restaurant, as well as indulge in the treatment offering at their sanctuary-like spa.
Chicken soup for the soul, if the recipe called for rustic elegance and five-star luxury in the Menorcan countryside. That’s how relaxed you’ll be after a stint here. Morning yoga is a must if you’re seeking the full zen experience. Laid on three times a week, with sessions cycling between a spot on the clifftop and a spot tucked away in the heart of the grounds, this is pure R&R.
If you’ve never practiced your sun salutation, there’s never been a better time to start, but there are plenty more ways to relax in these tranquil surroundings. Get to know the walking trails that wind their way through the vineyards, or pick a shady spot and camp out for an afternoon with a good book – this is all about doing a slow-lane stay your way.
If you fancy ditching the walking shoes, pile into the hotel’s Mehari – totally reminiscent of a safari jeep – and let the experts guide you though the picturesque landscape. For a fixed price per person, you’ll be chauffeured along a scenic route, with a stop at the cliff’s edge for a much-needed glass of vino.
The harvest is put to good use at the weekly Finca Flora Workshop, where you can create custom perfume and skincare scented with the hotel’s own rosemary and chamomile. You can try your hand at pottery, too, with a workshop run by a local specialist in handmade ceramics. Who needs to hit the souvenir shops when you can craft your very own memento?
Hop on the shuttle that weaves its way to sister finca Santa Ponsa and you’ll be glad you did, especially if you need stronger stuff that sunrise yoga to make a dent in your stress levels. So, let’s talk spa treatments. With a holistic approach to beauty and wellness – and taking inspiration from Traditional Chinese Medicine – you might find this is more than just your average facial or massage. You might not find a new lease of life hidden in the treatment rooms but we’ll bet you’ll emerge feeling like a million dollars.
There’s a steam room and sauna, too, plus an aquatic course and a private rooftop terrace where you can spend just a little bit more time focused on yourself before you head back to reality.
An ice-cold Pomada Menorquina doled out from the bar – this classic Menorcan gin-and-lemonade cocktail is an absolute must on a balmy summer’s day.
The aperitif on the cliffs. Three nights a week the bar sets up shop right on the shoreline, with cocktails and grazing boards as the sun sinks below the horizon. Reservations required.
The endless opportunities for wandering through the grounds. Whether you’re heading off on your morning jog or just stretching your legs after a lazy afternoon, getting your steps in won’t feel like a chore in these picture-perfect surroundings.
