"We stayed at the Son Baulo Hotel after reading many positive reviews and choosing it mainly for the location, which admittedly is excellent. The beach nearby is beautiful, very clean, and perfect for children. However, there were no sunbeds available on the beach, which made things difficult for my mother spending long days there.
Unfortunately, the hotel itself was not suited to families with younger children, despite being advertised as family friendly. The biggest issue for us was that children under 6 are not allowed in the main pool. This completely ruined the pool experience for our family as our 4-year-old could not swim alongside their older siblings. It created unnecessary separation and frustration during what should have been relaxing family time.
The overall atmosphere of the hotel also felt very geared towards an older generation of repeat visitors, many of whom seemed unhappy about younger children being around. We constantly felt like we had to restrain our children from simply being children — laughing, playing, and enjoying themselves. The pool and sunbed areas were eerily quiet, and it never felt like a welcoming environment for families.
We originally booked a street view room, which was another disappointment. The room overlooked an alleyway, with a large tree directly in front of the balcony blocking most of the light. The room felt very dark, enclosed, and quite depressing to spend time in. We asked if it was possible to move rooms and the hotel did allow us to upgrade, although it cost an extra 175 euros. In hindsight, it was worth paying for as the new room had much more space and, most importantly, plenty of natural light which made a huge difference to our overall comfort during the stay.
Dinner time was another disappointing experience. When the dining hall opened at 6:30pm, there was an almost comical rush of people queueing to get in quickly, eat fast, and then secure seats for the evening entertainment. Once people had their seats, they stayed there for the entire night. The atmosphere honestly felt more like a Butlins-style holiday camp than a relaxing hotel experience.
The children’s entertainment was also extremely limited. The mini disco lasted around 15 minutes with only a few songs before the children were told to leave the stage so bingo could begin. Trying to explain to a disappointed 4-year-old that the fun was already over was not easy.
That being said, there were positives. The hotel was very clean throughout our stay, and the staff themselves were friendly, hardworking, and helpful. The food was also decent and perfectly edible, which was a plus.
Overall, while the location and cleanliness were good, the culture and atmosphere of the hotel made it very clear that it is not catered towards families with young children. Personally, I would not recommend Son Baulo Hotel for families looking for a relaxed and child-friendly holiday."
