A SERENE SPOT ON COSTA BLANCA
Located on the stunning Costa Blanca in the Alicante province, this small town is a picturesque coastal resort that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Known for its pristine sandy beaches, Guardamar de Segura boasts more than 11 kilometres of golden sands and crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal destination for sunbathing, swimming, and a variety of water sports. The main beach, Playa Centro, is particularly popular, featuring a lively promenade lined with plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops.
Beyond the beaches, Guardamar de Segura is surrounded by natural beauty. It’s home to Spain’s smallest natural park, called Parc Alfonso XIII, and the beautiful Reina Sofia Park, a serene spot filled with ponds, waterfalls, and a diverse array of wildlife, including red squirrels, peacocks, and freshwater turtles, known as yellow-bellied sliders. And you can’t visit Guardamar without seeing the beautiful Lagunas de La Mata Nature Reserve, a lagoon that’s home to pink flamingos and storks.
The town also has a rich history, with the ancient Phoenician port of La Fonteta and the Guardamar Castle offering glimpses into its storied past – pop into the local Archaeological Museum to delve deeper. If you’re after a more active holiday, Guardamar offers numerous outdoor activities. The Segura River, which runs through the town, is perfect for kayaking and fishing, while the surrounding pine forests and sand dunes are ideal for hiking and biking.
