"I was staying at this hotel for my friends hen do in July 2026. I was in a twin room sharing with my best friend. Every morning while on holiday I will budget my money for the day and this morning was no different, I went into my purse and took out my money for the day and left €100 for the following day as this was going to be our last day. I placed the €100 back into the front pocket of my small hold-all and zipped this up, leaving this on the floor of our room (my passport and keys were also in this front pocket). We went out for the day and were away from the room from approx 11.30am to 5.30pm. On return to the hotel, our room had been cleaned and I checked my bag to ensure my belongings were still there as I always do upon returning to my room while on holiday. I very quickly realised my €100 euro had disappeared. I informed my friend and we were both in complete shock. Despite knowing for absolute fact that the money was placed in my bag, we turned the room upside down to check for this and it was nowhere to be seen. I headed straight down to reception where I was greeted by a middle aged man who appeared to work at the hotel but was always just hanging around reception area (smelling of alcohol). I informed him what had happened and he did not in the slightest way seem shocked at all which me and my friend both found extremely weird. He told me to wait there and he would be back. He then disappeared for around 15 minutes after which I asked another member of staff working on reception how long I would be waiting as we had plans for the evening. She didn’t have any idea what I was talking about so I had to explain the entire situation to her again. She asked for our room number and pulled out a log book, I assume to check who cleaned our room that day. She shut the log book and protested that all of their cleaners have worked there for over 20 years and this has never happened before (surely you would say this before taking the log book out to check?!). This was when the first man reappeared with no explanation (very shady). The manager was called down and had the worst attitude of any professional person I have ever come across, advising this has never happened before and practically accusing me of lying. His first response was ‘not our responsibility as not in the safe’. Regardless if the money was in the safe or not you should be able to leave your belongings in your own room without fear of them being taken, they also have a master key for the safe so this makes no difference. He was extremely intimidating and said there was nothing they could do, sniggering when I advised I would get the police involved so this is what I done. I am pretty sure if I was to lie about money being taken I would say it was more than €100….. thankfully the friend I was sharing with didn’t have any cash left in the room or I believe this also would have been gone. On return to our room we noticed that our corridor does not have CCTV which further amplifies my suspicions on this hotel. You can imagine my shock when the next morning I walked passed a maid who must have been no older than 30 years old, quite miraculous considering the hotel claim all of their maids have worked there for over 20 years! I had to file a police report and will hopefully be able to claim some money back via insurance but the hotel will likely get off without so much as a visit from the police (who were also fairly useless). I am a completely trustworthy person working in a legal profession and would never lie about theft. I go abroad 4-5 times a year and have done for the last 10 years and nothing like this has ever happened to me. I feel disgusted at the entire situation and will never ever return. AVOID!!!"
