Catalonia Porto

"Disappointing . We really like the Catalonia hotel brand and previously have always had positive stays when we stayed in their hotels but we felt our stay in Porto was overpriced for the quality of hotel . Room was good size , bed comfy , bathroom clean and shower good but outdoor space disappointing. The view was poor looking onto venting pipes which were noisy during the day and gave off a funny smell. The hotel’s garden is overlooked by other buildings not belonging to the hotel and some look in poor repair and residents of some were quite noisy some evenings . There were many ants on our balcony and if we didn’t keep the door closed they came indoors which was very off putting if we wanted to sit out . Also there was no light on the balcony which wasn’t good as couldn’t see on an evening. The outdoor pool area was quite dark even in the daytime because of the surrounding trees and the pool often full of leaves. The water feature was waterless and looked in disrepair and didn’t give a good first impression as you arrived in the garden. The staff were nice enough but less friendly than other Catalonia hotels. The location is quite a walk from river and bridge and all uphill coming back. The photos of the hotel on the website are misleading because the front of the hotel doesn’t look at all like it is shown online ."

"Such a great hotel! Reception team are fabulous - knowledgeable, polite, helpful, emails quickly answered. Room was lovely and quiet with a very comfortable bed and efficient shower. It was also spotlessly clean. Didn’t eat at the hotel so not able to review. Excellent location with plenty of restaurants and cafes close by. Within walking distance of all the top sites to visit. Good value for money for a city hotel. My only negative is that towels are changed daily unless you tell reception (which I only found out by asking reception!). I prefer what I’ve experienced in other hotels - hang up if you don’t want them changing, leave on floor if you do. Would absolutely not hesitate to return."
