Residencial Borsalino

"Unfortunately, our stay at Hotel Borsalino was a very disappointing experience. We understand that this is a budget hotel and that the price is lower than many other hotels in Porto, but €54 per night is still not cheap enough to justify the condition of the room and the overall lack of cleanliness and maintenance. The biggest issue was the extreme humidity. The room was so damp that clothes and towels left outside our suitcase actually became wet. There was also a noticeable unpleasant smell throughout the room, and the walls were visibly damaged and in need of maintenance. Our room was located in a basement/semi-basement area, with a very small window looking directly onto the pavement outside. Unfortunately, the curtain was broken and did not properly cover the window, so we had to improvise a solution ourselves just to have some privacy. This is not something guests should have to deal with. The cleanliness was another major concern. The bed sheets had visible stains, and we also found flies and small insects in the bathroom. The bathroom itself looked poorly maintained, and even the printed sign hanging there had faded badly because of the humidity. The breakfast was also extremely disappointing. There was very little choice and nothing particularly appealing, so after seeing what was available, we decided it was not worth relying on for our stay. The condition of the building from the outside was not much better. The entrance and exterior looked old, neglected and poorly maintained, which unfortunately matched the impression we got once inside. We knew we were booking a budget property, so we were not expecting luxury, modern facilities or a five-star experience. However, basic cleanliness, proper ventilation, functioning curtains, clean bedding and reasonable maintenance should be a minimum standard regardless of the price. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing hotel stays we have had. The location and low price may be appealing, but in our opinion, the condition of the property does not justify even the €54 per night we paid. Would not recommend and would definitely not stay here again."

"Check in was a little difficult with absolutely no English spoken by the owners/workers, but they were nice and friendly and tried hard to communicate. Would be no problems if you speak Portugese. This is not a hotel, more of a homestay. Breakfast is very basic, don't expect much, but its included in the price so ok. Location isnt too great, need an uber to get to most sights but is much better value than those hotels located in Gaia or Porto riverside. Id prefer to save some money and uber in/out. Room was perfectly fine in size for one person, may have struggled with 2 people. Smallest bathroom I've ever seen - but the shower was big enough and had nice hot water. Bed was comfy, large and had nice linen. Room was really clean and cosy. Only small thing, is a bin would've been nice in the room. Balcony would've been a nice place to sit in the afternoon but only one small stool out there and the whole balcony hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Overall a good value stay but dont expect hotel quality. It has more character and nice to support local business anyway."
