"We stayed for four nights with breakfast included, and unfortunately, while there were some genuine highlights, the overall experience fell well short of what we would expect from a five-star hotel. The facilities are beautiful, and some members of staff were fantastic, but the repeated lapses in communication, housekeeping and attention to detail were disappointing.
Breakfast was a frustrating start to every morning. On our first morning, we were told that breakfast was not included in our booking. After explaining that this was incorrect, the server checked with reception, who confirmed the mistake and allowed us to proceed. Unfortunately, we had to repeat this process every single morning of our four-night stay. It is difficult to understand why reception failed to communicate this basic information to the restaurant team after the first day. Having to explain and resolve the same issue repeatedly is an unnecessary inconvenience and not what you expect from a hotel of this standard.
Housekeeping was another significant disappointment. On the third day, we agreed to have our room cleaned and left to allow the team to do their job. That evening, the bedside table had such a thick layer of dust that you could have written your name in it, and no water had been left in the room. It genuinely left us wondering what had actually been cleaned. The following morning, housekeeping knocked at 9am while we were getting ready for breakfast. We declined, as the timing was inconvenient. On our final morning, at 7.30am, we were woken by cleaners dragging furniture and hoovering in the neighbouring room. With a midday checkout, guests should reasonably be able to enjoy a lie-in on their last morning. Having experienced many five-star hotels, we know that housekeeping can be managed far more thoughtfully, with greater consideration for guests' routines and privacy. We came away for a relaxing break, yet housekeeping disrupted us on multiple occasions throughout our stay.
The spa itself is a beautiful, relaxing space with excellent facilities, and our massages were wonderful. The therapist was absolutely fantastic, although unfortunately I cannot recall her name. However, even this experience was let down by a disappointing incident. While we were using the spa, our robes, slippers and towels were removed, leaving us without our room key and other belongings. When we explained the situation to the spa receptionist, we had to make our way to reception in our swimwear, where we were met by three members of staff simply staring at us. The lack of proactive assistance and basic sensitivity in that moment was uncomfortable and, once again, far from the standard we expected.
There were positives worth recognising. We thoroughly enjoyed the terrace, and the bartender was brilliant, offering knowledgeable and helpful recommendations on drinks. Our room service server was also excellent. Sadly, the food itself did not live up to the service, with the calzone being soggy and bland. The Wi-Fi was also unreliable throughout our stay, rarely working properly.
Ultimately, this hotel has an excellent location, beautiful spaces and some genuinely outstanding staff, but five-star hospitality is about much more than location and facilities. It is about seamless communication, consistent service, attention to detail and making guests feel comfortable, valued and cared for.
We left feeling that the hotel has all the ingredients to deliver a five-star experience, but the execution simply wasn't there. Unfortunately, despite its excellent location and some real positives, it did not live up to the standard we would expect from a hotel of this rating."
