Leonardo Hotel Utrecht City Center

"Booked this hotel expecting a 4-star standard given the price, and it fell well short. The building overall felt tired and poorly maintained , thin walls with little sound insulation between rooms, poor ventilation, and fixtures in the room that simply didn’t work properly. The tea/coffee station was dusty and the kettle hadn’t been cleaned. The duvet had visible stains. The bathroom door wouldn’t close properly, which is a basic privacy issue you don’t expect at any hotel, let alone one charging 4-star rates. Towels provided were minimal and worn. It was also extremely noisy outside until around 4am, and the windows did nothing to block any of it out, we barely slept. Genuinely not sure how this hotel gets to call itself 4- star. It feels like they’ve cornered the market in the area and are charging whatever they like regardless of the actual condition of the property. I can’t recommend this hotel. If I could give fewer than one star, I would."

"The review is related to room 17 from hotel Leonardo. Pros: The hotel is in the center of the city, close to shopping and travel points. The hotel staff are very friendly. Cons: No air conditioning in the room, just desk devices making a lot of noise. There is no fridge in the room, yet from the front desk I got the offer to store in their fridge whatever I need and take it whenever I want. No supplementary ventilation in the bathroom, no window either. The room is a long dark room for three people, no window provided except for the glass doors for the small balcony, the doors are covered with curtains during the day, the electric light from the ceiling is placed near the doors to the balcony, the rest of the room is lit with desk lamps. I mentioned these conditions to the hotel via WhatsApp, with the request for the possibility of changing the room: I got an immediate reply by phone informing me that all triple rooms are in the same condition, the only possibility of changing the room was with a quadruple room which was significantly more expensive. The biggest disappointment was the housekeeping service: since the check-in day I was informed the room cleaning is once every 4 days (really!). I asked after two days for my room to be cleaned with specific instruction, but it didn’t happen, or at least not properly. I informed the hotel via WhatsApp, their front office replied fast asking for excuses, I obtained some clean towels and liquid soap on the next day, but nothing changed for the cleaning request until the four days term was achieved. I assume they have a very small cleaning team, otherwise I see no reason for this poor service. The way from the hotel entrance to the room is a maze of halls and stairs. The Wi-Fi has poor internet connection: now it’s working, now it’s not. The TV service is poor: the TV channels are freezing often, especially when it rains. At the end of my stay period, the TV from my room was changed with a newer and larger one (it was an all-hotel action), hopefully the TV service will be improved. When it is raining, the door to the balcony should stay closed, otherwise the rainwater will drain in the room as the above floor balcony provides no protection. Conclusion: The hotel is overrated. It looks very nice for a maximum of two-three days stay, but not longer."
