"We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Aqua Mirage to others looking to stay there.
We have just returned from a 7-night all-inclusive stay at the Aqua Mirage (March 2026). We were nervous about booking because we read so many reviews, but realistically, you have to manage expectations and reality. The reality is that in Morocco, you are going to get a different service/standard than in other countries. On arrival, the hotel was exactly as we expected it to be, having looked at photos, watched some YouTube tours and read positive and negative reviews.
We visited in early March, and I'm confident because it is quieter at this time of year, that this helped us have a lovely experience. The other guests certainly play a part in your overall experience (not just the staff, who are fantastic and work very hard).
We had one negative experience with some other guests who let their children run unsupervised around the hotel day and night, and at all hours. They were screaming, attacking each other with sticks, etc., and the hotel dealt with it swiftly, and the issue did not continue. This woke us (and other guests) up, multiple times over two nights. Don't hesitate to speak to staff if you do have a concern about something that is ruining your holiday (like disturbed sleep two nights in a row).
CHECK-IN: We had a straightforward check-in experience - just watch out for guests who will happily cut the line, and pretend you weren't next to be served. Either be prepared to say something or be quiet and tolerate it. You need to pay your hotel taxes on arrival, and they prefer cash. You will not get a receipt; I am sure if you ask, they will print one. Tax is charged per night, per guest (13 yrs +). There is a cash machine at the hotel, and you'll pay fees (about £12 for a 1500MAD cash withdrawal; fees are a percentage of the withdrawal).
The reception staff were friendly. Nothing is done in haste, so take a breath and settle yourself into holiday mode while they do all the paperwork.
CURRENCY: We bypassed the currency exchange desks at the airport as we came to the baggage claim area. Once we got through the baggage scan into arrivals at the Marrakech airport, there were ATMS. One wasn't working, and one had a massive line. There were two others, which seemed difficult for people to use because lots walked away. We felt using the hotel atm was safer than using ones in front of random shops. There were also small shops selling esims. We survived by using the free wifi on our phones at the hotel. 02 will cost you an arm and a leg if you make a call, £27 for 3 minutes.
Once we were checked in, there were staff waiting to take us to our room (it is a big premises) in a golf cart. I was thankful for this because it was raining. You can tip staff if you like 10-20 MAD. But we didn't feel the need. FYI - 100 MAD = £8, and 10 MAD 80p
ROOMS: The hotel room was surface clean, and it was furnished nicely. We had joining rooms (family of 5) which had two doors, so if we wanted to drown out the noise of our kids, we could shut our door. There is plenty of storage to unpack, a safe (free to use) and a mini fridge (empty). I took some disinfectant wipes and wiped everything over, including the light switches. I was glad I did this because the wipes were dirty. The bed linen and towels were aged; i.e., my fitted sheet had some "wear and tear" holes. The bathroom is showing signs of age, but that is mostly the shower. I expected all of this based on the reviews.
We stayed in the family block (4), and were on the odd numbers side (facing the aqua park). If you want to get sun in your room, ask for a room with an even number. I'd recommend the sunny side in the cooler months to help dry off towels and swimwear.
TOWELS: You can rent towels for the pool (you can't use the room towels) for 150MAD per towel. You can change the towels every two days. Go to the reception to get a card, and then take the card to the facilities to get the towels.
FACILITIES: The hotel facilities are vast, and there are many more swimming pools than we realised. We didn't use them all because some are for adults only (we have children), and also, it was March and only one pool is heated. There were lots of people at the hotel playing tennis, and some seemed to be there purely as a tennis holiday. There is also a huge astro pitch for football, table tennis, a small basketball court, mini golf (which is a bit run down, but we enjoyed a game) and lots of equipment you can hire.
Hiring the equipment is my biggest frustration. You can only hire for 1 hour; more than that, you need to return for permission, or else they keep your deposit. Your deposit is 100MAD (£8) per item. So if three people play mini golf, it is 300MAD, or a ball to use in the pool is 100MAD. The biggest frustration is the opening and closing times. Perhaps because it is March, they shut earlier (5 pm instead of 6 pm), but they also shut between 12-3 pm. I've included a photo of the flyer. You can buy a football from the little Sponge Bob shop outside the hotel (to the left) for about £8 if you prefer.
You will see wear and tear around the facilities, but everything is tidy and organised. You see the staff, cleaning and tidying every morning and evening before guests come and mess it all up again.
ENTERTAINMENT: I wasn't terribly impressed with the animation team. They were friendly, but a bit like the "cool kids" at school. Silly is one word that comes to mind. Lots of the sessions advertised didn't happen, especially the sports like football and basketball. They seem to prefer to hang out at the pool, and I noticed some of the younger men liked to chat with the bikini-clad sunbathing guests and give them private dance performances. Haha, poor girls, it was cringe. We didn't bother with the nighttime entertainment, so we can't comment.
FOOD: The food was good with so many options and variety. I am gluten intolerant, so I found lunch time really difficult. But breakfast was excellent (despite the insane amount of pastries available, which my kids LOVED!). Dinner was manageable, and Thursday night was the best evening as I didn't struggle once to find things I wanted to eat. I really enjoyed my meal on Thursday night. I assume they have the same menu for each day, which is why I mention it.
My main comment is that we found our food was always cold when we sat down to eat it, even when we got to the restaurant when it opened. The food was cooked, and on heat plates (I even saw someone checking temperatures), but without fail, every time we got our food and sat down, it was cold! I recommend you find food that they are cooking in front of you, so it's still hot when you sit down. At breakfast, that will be an omelette (cooked outside).
The hotel does have gluten free bread, which they will get for you on request. It's a cross between an English muffin and a bread roll, and it's quite nice when heated. Otherwise, BYO, and they'll happily help you with your BYO items. Including if you bring GF pizza bases, but there will be contamination.
The other thing I found difficult was the gluten (it makes me physically sick). Most meats with a sauce had gluten, and every rice dish (like asian rice or fried rice) had gluten. Plus, there is food that obviously has gluten, like pasta.
The hotel's solution was to point me to all the cooked vegetables. They love cooked vegetables in Morocco. But I'm not a vegetarian, so I don't enjoy only eating cooked vegetables. My other concern was that the restaurant puts the fries (hot chips) with the crumbed fried food. The fries were gluten-free, but not when the other hotel guests messed up all the tongs and contaminated them.
Having said that, if you are a vegetarian, you'll love what is on offer.
The food is varied daily, and you do not struggle for choice (if you are allergy-free). I think the key is to pick one type of food per meal. For example, a roast one night, or Italian another night. If you continually put a crazy, random selection, you will get bored. The roasts vary; we saw beef, turkey, chicken, and even this delicious hamburger-type bake. They did kebabs one night, as well as other grill dishes.
Every lunch and dinner, there is tagine available. We booked the Moroccan restaurant one night, and I thought the food wasn't as nice as the main restaurant. My tagine was burnt, and the base dish cracked through. The only selling point for the Moroccan restaurant is that it's a small restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant. I wouldn't recommend the Moroccan restaurant if you have a gluten allergy because all you can eat is the main. We didn't try the Italian restaurant for obvious reasons.
As an aside, the desserts at this hotel are so impressive. The cakes they make daily, and the displays are incredible. I couldn't eat any, but wow!
LUNCH: It is available in the restaurant. Or near the main pool, you can get some burgers, fries and pannis (savoury and sweet) if you prefer not to go to the main restaurant and to change things up. We did this for our kids because they didn't want to get out of the pool (not that they ate in the pool). There are no external GF options.
DRINKS: You can access drinks at anytime from the main bar (hot and cold). I recommend, as others have done, bringing a travel mug for your hot drinks, and a sealable drink bottle as the weather gets warmer, to protect from insects. We didn't have issues in March with insects, but I didn't enjoy drinking my coffee out of a freshly washed plastic tumbler for children.
SNACKS: The only snacks we saw available were at 3pm when they set out a long table at the bar near the main pool. It was all gluten-filled, sandwiches, burgers, pastries etc. The portion sizes are like finger foods, and you can get a plate of what you like. The display looked nice.
STAFF: The restaurant staff are fantastic and hard workers. We liked to sit in the same place so we could get to know the staff working in that area, and learn their name. They then get to know you also. One staff member knew I loved drinking hot water with mint. It was easy to get this at breakfast, but not at lunch or dinner, so if he was working, he would get me some hot water and mint.
OTHER: We booked a birthday cake for our daughter's birthday. You need to book by 1pm the day before and pay at the cashier in reception. We arrived on her birthday, and the hotel kindly booked the cake for us and asked we pay immediately on arrival, and go straight to the restaurant. The emails come across very stressy about the payment, but I believe it's just the language barrier.
When you get to the restaurant, ask a staff member immediately because they will have set you a lovely table with a tablecloth and extra detail. I think this is a thoughtful detail. The staff also sing happy birthday, and I loved the count down to blowing out the candles!
The price varies on how many people eat it, so a cake for 4 people will be more than a cake for 20 people. No problem. 0-4 people was about £8.
PHOTOGRAPHY: There are some photographers who walk around during the day and take photos. Their photos are good, and they capture some good waterslide moments. They will also book you in for a family photo shoot. From what I saw, their photos are 50 MAD per photo (printed). Worth considering to get at least one family photo, without someone missing!
THE SPA: I wasn't going to book anything, but my husband insisted. He booked a deep tissue massage (50 mins), and I booked the hamman package (2 hours). Mine was only 100MAD more than his, and I definitely got the better deal. Book the hamman and ask for a therapist named Dream (that's her name translated into English). I have had plenty of massages and facials in my life, but hers was the best in my life.
The Hamman package includes sitting in a steam room first before going in for a Turkish bath. I always find these a little weird, as they clean you better than you could ever clean yourself. There is a point where they walk out and leave you ... this is the part you are meant to relax, take a short nap. I couldn't relax, ladies, when you go, you'll realise why. Haha.
After the bathing, they'll tuck you back in your robe and give you some water. After a short wait, you'll go for 1.5 hours for a massage and facial. If I went back, I would book one at the beginning of my trip and one at the end! Incredible value for money, and I walked on a cloud the rest of the day.
DAY TRIPS: We looked into booking day trips through the providers at the hotel. But they are expensive. One day trip with the hotel was 224 euros, and we booked a similar trip via TripAdvisor (I've also reviewed that: Art de Cuivre Travel) for under £80 (family of 5).
Beware: There is also a booking agency outside the hotel, just down from the SpongeBob shop. Stay away! You will not get what they promise (which is very little). Book tours that have clear, in writing, details of what to expect.
In my opinion, Marrakech as a city is boring, with only the medina to see. Anything outside looking at shops will cost you to see. Under no circumstances waste your money on a "city tour". You can take yourself around for free, and the city is basically the medina.
The hotel has a shuttle service you can book, 30MAD pp. A couple of journeys during the day are free (two each way), but those are strategic and won't work for most people. For example, the only free shuttle from the hotel to Marrakech is at 12.30 pm, or 11 pm. From Marrakech to the hotel, the shuttle is free at 10.30 am or 11.30 pm.
Enjoy your stay!"
