Hotel Ichbilia

"Cheap and cheerful , everything was fine , the staff were lovely , my room was noisy but I wanted the balcony so I was prepared to put up with that , the rooms are basic but everything is there , by only suggestion is that they put some hooks up somewhere to hang your clothes , I had to hang my coat on a light fitting , and there wasn't a hook or a hangar in the wardrobe thingy in the corner , the situation is good and close to everything , no complaints apart from the hooks ,"

"The owner of this establishment should not be allowed to have a business. It's unacceptable to charge anyone anything for what is offered in this place. I had booked a riad in another area, but upon arrival I was told that there was a water problem with my room and therefore I would be offered another room. This hotel was the alternative and the photos of the room I was shown were okay. As it was only for one night and I would have a very early call the following morning, I accepted. I'm not a fussy traveler in any way and I have stayed in very simple places throughout my travels. I should have checked better when this alternative was shown to me, before checking in to this new hotel. I was simply too tired to bother. The bed itself was ok and for one night I didn't need any luxury in the room. But the bathroom was a complete health hazard and not even basic things were provided. This was far below the standard I had paid for to the riad (it would have been basic, not a spa hotel, but still miles away from the disappointment that was Ichbilia). There was black mould on the bathroom walls. The shower was rusty. Barely any warm water came out of the tap. There was no soap, no toilet paper, no towel. I went to the reception to ask for toilet paper. Although I received one roll, it came with the sarcastic comment "Of course! And what else? Some fruit?" The room had one very old AC unit without any remote control. There were unpleasant stains on the walls and floors, and the sockets literally came out of the wall. I got my hair tangled in the bed frame, because of its design, the room was very cold, and I could hear every sound on my floor until late at night. The entrance is quite dodgy, sheets and towels are hung to dry in the corridor, and the shared bathroom and showers on my floor looked appalling as well. The hotel is within walking distance to Jemaa-el-Fnaa and right next to a lively pedestrian area with shops and restaurants. Location-wise, it could be great. But I wouldn't stay here again if my life depended on it. We need a minus rating for places like this."

"Firstly the location is excellent but the actual hotel was hard to find. The wifi password was written down incorrectly. Next day I spoke to day reception and they told me almost everyone has the same problem. However, after getting the right password it worked fine. The room was clean and the sheets unmarked. Bathroom was OK. TV was not working (as to be expected) and several of the fittings and bedside lights were broken. My room had no view and just a skylight. The cafe above looked closed. In all not too bad I would probably go elsewhere next time."
