Hotel Ta Cenc & Spa

"⭐️⭐️ La Tenc Hotel & Spa, Gozo Sadly, our recent stay at La Tenc Hotel & Spa was very disappointing and far from the tranquil 5-star experience we expected. Maintenance work waking guests early and disturbing breakfast, with guests having to move to different tables part way through their meal— hardly the tranquil and peaceful setting advertised. The grounds looked neglected, with rotting plants attracting flies everywhere, meaning we could not use our sun-beds and seating for our whole stay. The rooms were tired and lacked basic facilities you’d expect from a hotel of this rating. Including no shower, leaking fixings leaving soaked and slippery flooring. Service throughout our stay was poor. Staff were friendly enough but seemed unsure of anything — whether it was activities outside the hotel, or restaurant recommendations. There was no sign of any manager during our entire 4-night stay, which perhaps explains the lack of direction. Food was very limited and quite bland, with few choices available. While the hotel has potential, it’s clearly in need of better upkeep, management presence, and guest care. Not somewhere I’d recommend until significant improvements are made."

"Since last year, and especially 2-3 years ago, there has been a serious upgrading carried out. Because of the way it is created it will always be a challenge between the rustic beauty of the layout and the need for modern well presented rooms. It has been achieved. Having visited many hotels in Malta and Gozo over the decades, Ta Cenc is unique in its layout. Anyone wanting everywhere the same go to a traditional relatively boring hotel. Here the two outdoor pools are excellent (we saw the adults pool being redone a couple of years ago) and the outdoor spa pool is especially good as the outside temperature drops. Who can complain about the breakfast? Excellent and varied. Looking forward to next time."

"This was our 2nd visit to this hotel, and we had a lovely holiday. Our 1st visit was in May 2024, this time in September. Much hotter in September. We enjoyed breakfasts outside in the restaurant area, under the carob tree for some shade. Pots of tea & coffee are served to your table. You just have to ask. Dinner was outside too when possible, although by the end of September it was a little cooler in the evenings, and quite a few rainstorms. Food is served to you, choosing from various dishes on the set dinner menu. Lovely selection of Maltese & Gozo wines to choose from. The staff were very attentive and the maitre d very friendly, remembering us from our previous visit. However, the meals took a long time from ordering to arriving; with starters being very large portions. Desserts we thought were a little underwhelming, samples brought to you on a big tray to choose from. Our room was as lovely as before, just a few steps away from the family swimming pool. Unfortunately the older you get the harder it is to haul yourself up the metal rungs to get out, and no steps to walk down & up to get in & out. The adults only pool did have steps and a handrail, and wasn't too far away either. Pool towels are available in the Spa, and can be changed as often as you need. If you got a new fluffy yellow one that was good, but these rain out quickly and the thin blue ones were not so good. We think they need to be removed and more decent ones purchased as soon as possible. The bedroom was serviced daily, but we often had to ask for tea bags, toilet rolls & shower gel which the staff had forgotten to replenish. We were a little concerned about the state of the bamboo roofing over our patio area. It has seen better days and needs to be replaced. Our patio was only swept once in two weeks and the table never wiped, except by us! Bar staff were friendly, we got to know them well. Very good cocktails. Lunch time meals are served there until about 4.30pm. Service rather slow at times. There is also a lovely outdoor rock swimming pool attached to the Spa, Starting indoors you're able to swim through until you're outside. Very relaxing in the water. There are not many sun loungers outside by this pool, and not much shade. There are cats everywhere, begging at tables whenever there is food about. So if you don't like cats ................. We did have a lovely relaxing holiday, in very peaceful surroundings, but on this occasion not 5 star."
