"A very interesting hotel to say the least. And it’s a long review but as a seasoned traveller it’s pure honesty however take it however you want. I previously stayed at the AX odycy 3 times bigger than this hotel with zero issues on the points I’ve outlined.
The room is very basic which is fine. I don’t expect more. Bed very very comfy which was a plus. The balcony is just pointless. No space once the 2 pitiful chairs are out and not even a table so you couldn’t enjoy just relaxing out there which I like to do on a morning and evening. The air conditioning I turned off straight away as it just blowed more warm air into the room and to be honest was more like a heater than cooler and had 3 settings high low or off. Off was the better setting.
The bathroom is fine but hardly any lighting. So it’s pretty dingy and dark all the time but everything functioned as it should.
The lock to the balcony was useless as did nothing and reading other reviews of student issues became a massive security issue but having made a call to easyJet holidays (which had no bearing on this holiday as it was my choice. They have been and always will be my first choice to book with) made arrangements to secure it.
Then this is your main issue with the hotel. Their bookings are mainly mass bookings. Not just people like myself coming for a quiet break from a hectic work life so restaurant issues are my biggest criticism. I spent most of my first day out sightseeing seeing as the room couldn’t be accessed until 2pm and didn’t get back for dinner until 8pm with an hour of service left. The food choice was poor and virtually empty with no topping up.
I went for breakfast at 7.15am opening time and to my astonishment every single person in the hotel did the same as they are either the students as a group or the giant bulk booking who were also together. Now imagine the scene from finding memo with the seagulls sat on the wall claiming mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Being one of the first to enter the restaurant and finding a table I found myself in the middle of feeding all the animals at the zoo at the same time. The whole hotel arrived at the same time. A feeding frenzy of what I can only describe as people that have never eaten in their lives before. As soon as a tray was put out it was empty. Old lady at the coffee machine doing their whole tables coffee order at once. Just greedy, greedy people all fighting for their place. I pulled a waitress aside and asked if it was always the same every day. Simply yes was the answer. A bunch of animals. She suggested coming at later times but then there was no food or shrivelled food gone cold. Once I’d managed to fight through the hoard the meal was acceptable for breakfast but has put me on a decision of whether it’s just easier to buy food outside on an evening
The team were polite but would I stay here again. Probably not despite the value price it was. But then I guess you pay for what you get. Bulk bookings sure do drive away the families and solo people travelling. And I wonder if that’s the reason they take so many bulk bookings because they have driven away those customers by starting this culture
On a lighter note in my opinion. As much as there were a lot of students I found the elder generation bookings were the worst. I did not see students running up and down hallways making noise constantly but again these kind of bookings will drive aways the customers that are looking for peace quiet and tranquility of being on holiday."
