"We stayed at the Borgo Giusto Tuscany for six days in August, booked over travelzoo. We were not impressed by the hotel, as there were a lot of unsatisfactory instances. Most importantly, the rooms were dated, sort-of broken and infested with ants. Our apartment had no AC which was annoying during the August heatwave, but there were electric fans which helped a bit. There were very few sockets in the rooms, some occupied already, which meant charging multiple devices or plugging in anti-insect plugs at the same time wasn’t possible. The shower was incredibly small, very uncomfortable for us with barely enough space to turn around. The toilet lid wasn’t fixed and fell off all the time, even after we asked to get it repaired, they just stuck it on but didn’t fix it. Meaning it kept falling off. And although it is inconsequential, the soap dispensers were attached too high on the wall, where children wouldn’t be able to reach them. Keeping in mind that this is a four-star hotel, we were also disappointed with the furnishing in the apartments, for example the cheap, already bent metal clothes hangers in all closets.
The wifi was finicky in the apartment.
More direly, our apartment had an ant problem in multiple rooms. We had larger, black ants in the bathroom and one bedroom, and smaller, reddish ants in the kitchen all around our food. We didn’t notice when we left, but some had snuck in a bag and infested our car when we drove home. We had to stop for 30 minutes and (not completely successfully) free ourselves from the ants.
We chose the half board option, which got slightly boring at some point but that’s on us for staying that long. We chose to have dinner all nights, where we had six Appetizers, six Primi, six secondi and four/five dessert options. Importantly, water is not included in the dinner service. Neither is the coperto, which costs 2 euros per person every night. The dinner service was also disjointed; organization seemed lacking in most aspects. Our first night there, we spent three hours on three courses, waiting 45 minutes between them. Also, while dinner was said to start at 19:30, they changed the start to 20:00 for the subsequent days without telling us. So we would appear at 19:45, and they’d make us wait every day without explanation. The servers, however, were very kind when we bumbled through Italian pronounciations and the food was acceptable, the desserts less so.
There is the option to cook in the apartments, but it will cost you 20€ per day plus the gas you used.
Reception staff was very nice.
Also, for those arriving by car it is important to know that the drive to the hotel is very adventurous: one-lane gravel paths, where you have to hope not to encounter anyone. If you do, you’ll be maneuvering for minutes.
Since we booked over travelzoo, we didn’t have any other option than the half-Board. Also, we want to highlight that we got the hotel at a very cheap price with the food included - most of the review is critical of the four star rating the hotel has. Going by what we paid, we are quiet appreciative safe for the ants.
All in all, we were iffy about our stay since it was lacking in organization, cleanliness and comfort. If you plan to stay here, do not spend six days here as we have, it will get boring fast. We would suggest taking the half-board anyway, since it is not advisable to drive to and from the hotel in the dark, as it is arduous enough in daytime."
