"We chose this hotel because we were arriving and travelling onwards by train so being near Santa Maria Novella station was important to us. We had quite realistic expectations as we knew it was a 3 star 'tourist' hotel which was cheap by Florence standards. Was somewhat regretting our choice as we crossed the tramlines to get to the hotel but, on arrival, we were pleqsantly surprised to be upgraded to a room with a balcony on the 5th floor which had lovely views towards the Duomo and beyond! The room itself was also absolutely fine and looked newly decorated (although a kettle and some coffee/tea sachets would have been welcome additions). The bathroom was rather dated especially the tiles but it was v clean and everything worked (as did the air con). The bed was really comfortable too and the bedding/towels were all new/good quality. Breakfast was a little bland and basic but definitely OK for the price. A number of reviewers have commented on the noise levels - we were at the front of the hotel so immediately opposite SM station but couldn't really hear the trains at all. The trams, however, do rattle quite loudly as they come around the corner to the front of the hotel but they are less frequent later in the evenings and stop altogether from arond 00.30 until around 6.00. A combination of heat, wine and miles of sightseeing meant that we slept pretty well regardless - earplugs definitely helped too! As for the immediate area, it is not the prettiest part of Florence but 5 minutes' walk takes you to lovely Piazza Santa Maria Novella from where it's just a short stroll to the Duomo. Some reviewers have commented on the large groups of peope who appear to be 'loitering' in the afternoon/evenings opposite the staion/at the tram stops. We noticed them too but from what we observed they are just sitting aeoind and talking amongst themselves and don't appear to be approaching tourists or harassing them in any way. There is also a very obvious police/security presence around the station so we didn't feel that the area, while not very attractive, is unsafe. Overall, we felt that this hotel met our expectationsbb for a standard 3 star and would recommend it to those looking for a good value base for a few days exploring Florence."

"The location and employees are the best. The TV is like a monitor. The noise from the drains is crazy. Room 10 must be where the drains for the whole hotel pass because you can even hear when they pee. Horrible. The tram is very close but the room vibrates so much it seems like it's going to fall down. Tram schedule from 5am to 12:30am."
