Romano House

"The location to the main square in Catania is only a few minutes walk away however you don't feel like you are in the city centre as it's quite quiet. The hotel didn't seem at any point to be very busy. I was on a long weekend break with my partner but I found Catania to be a dirty place with graffiti everywhere. The hotel has large rooms but we were directly looking in to other rooms. Whole place could do with a fresh coat of paint. On the positive side beds were very comfortable and air con very efficient during a very hot spell of weather The hotel has 4 star classification and I can only put that down to the staff. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. However the star of the show was Antonio, bar manager (as well as lots of other hats). He kept us fed with super bar snacks that I've never experienced anywhere else. The hotel has an excellent 'happy 2 hours' between 19.00 hrs and 21.00 hrs. Antonio has an excellent command of the english language and so we had may conversations over several days about many subjects. I would go back to Sicily but despite this being a nice hotel with lots of positives I wouldn't return to Catania, although I would detour to pop in to Romano House to say hello to Antonio."

"We stayed for a short time in Hotel Romano House, and were excited to explore Catania. The rooms are very large and well kept, we were impressed with how big the beds are, and the fact there were two! The rooms had excellent amenities available and two different shower heads as well, which all contributed to a more luxury feel. The breakfast was also enjoyable with a good selection of food and drink and, it was open later which I appreciated-sometimes I find hotel breakfasts close far too late! That being said the staff were very hot and cold, we dealt with some staff members who were very polite and kind, some who were very cold. Especially when checking in it was a very frosty atmosphere and I started to worry we were in the wrong place! It wasn’t the best first impression. One thing guests must be aware of, and this is to no fault of the hotel, it is located in a rather interesting area. Let’s just say if you’re here for a certain kind of pleasure tourism, fantastic, if you’re traveling with kids or as a solo female I’d probably check out a hotel somewhere else in the city. Overall a pleasant stay, but unfortunately some bad interactions let it down."

"We stayed here for four nights, the hotel is perfectly located so very near to the centre, near to many restaurants tucked away in between the historical Italian buildings. It's an easy flat walk from the hotel to easily explore Catania. The style of the hotel is very Italian, there is a small gym and a terrace on the roof by the gym. The reception area is light and bright with high ceilings. The reception staff were always polite and helpful. Our bedroom was upgraded, which was very welcomed. A decent sized wardrobe with lots of hanging and storage space, also a safe. The bathroom had a walk in shower and a bidet, with complimentary products - the bathroom was modern, although needed a little TLC. There was a perfectly adequate selection of breakfast items fruit / yoghurt / cakes / toast / cereals / croissants which most European visitors would welcome. Also a waffle maker and a vegetable juice maker. A great bar where there was a happy hour between 7.00 / 9.00 pm managed by Antonio who spoke really good English and provided a wonderful selection of snacks with your drink. He is certainly an asset to the hotel staff. We found the largest, crazy outside market just a stroll from the hotel - well worth a look. Something for everyone. A ten minute walk to the Teatro Metropolitan from the hotel. No complimentary water in the bedroom - for a 4* hotel this should be included."
