Perched on a promontory in the centre of the Asinara Gulf, this picturesque town is crowned by a medieval castle that was once the home of the aristocratic Genoese Doria family. The Old Town surrounds the castle and it's here that you'll find many of Castelsardo's excellent restaurants on atmospheric cobbled streets. The town has its own pretty little beach surrounded by newer hotels and bars but there's lots of other great seaside options to be found just outside of town. On the way, stop for a photo of the Elephant Rock, a stone outcrop that resembles an elephant raising its trunk.
