Puglia’s turquoise bay
Torre dell’Orso is Salento’s beach darling on Puglia’s Adriatic coast, famous for its curved bay of pale sand, clear turquoise water and a pine forest that serves built-in shade (thank you, nature). Days here are gloriously simple: swim in calm shallows, float until you forget your postcode, then wander the promenade for gelato and salty snacks.
The postcard moment is the Due Sorelle sea stacks, two rocky “sisters” sitting just offshore like they’re posing for your camera roll. Catch them at sunrise if you want peak drama, or do it at golden hour when everything turns honey-coloured. Feeling adventurous? The coastline is packed with coves and cliffs, and you’re well placed for day trips to Otranto (old-town walls and sea views) or Lecce (baroque buildings and aperitivo culture).
Food is pure Puglia joy: grilled seafood, orecchiette, burrata, and desserts that disappear suspiciously fast. Evenings are low-key but lively enough, with families strolling, couples lingering over wine, and the sea breeze doing its thing. Go for a beach day, stay for a whole week, and don’t be surprised if “let’s move here” gets mentioned at least once.
