The hotel isn't just one building; it’s a complex of seven interconnected structures that blend different eras of Reykjavik’s history.
It incorporates the former Icelandic Telecommunications headquarters, the first girls' school in Iceland, and the historic Independence Hall.
The architecture carefully preserved the classic style of the Austurvöllur Square while introducing modern, sustainable features like geothermal energy use.
From the moment you arrive, it is clear that General Manager Helga Björk Jósefsdóttir has fostered a culture of authentic Icelandic hospitality that makes every guest feel truly seen.
The Lobby & Beyond: Over 200 original works by Icelandic artists—including paintings, sculptures, and mixed media—are displayed throughout the public spaces.
We stayed as HH Diamond Lifetime members during our family stay 6 nights at the hotel in March 2026 in connected quiet executive (family) rooms facing the side of the parliament.

Front Office: The reception team is consistently friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable, ensuring a seamless check-in/out experience and provide great ideas for your stay in Reykjavik..
Bar Team: At the stylish Telebar, the professional service is second to none with great cocktails, fresh (local & Danish) draft beers and delicious small plates.
Breakfast Staff: The morning team provided attentive service that elevates the solid breakfast buffet, which features delicious made-to-order eggs, bacon, pancakes, prosecco, cheeses, cold cuts as well as yummy local Skyr & Salmon and fresh fruits. Note that breakfast already starts here at 6:30am! This is especially awesome when joining an early tour. Breakfast at the Curio Hilton Konsulat Hotel (also a very good option in Reykjavik) starts at 7:00am....
Housekeeping: Daily service incl. turndown service is impeccable, keeping the spacious 163 guestrooms and suites with huge walk-in rain showers, high-end finishes, comfy beds, heated bathroom floors, high-quality blackout curtains (which are essential for sleeping during the Icelandic summer)
and plush linens/towels —spotless and "snuggly".
Awesome in summer time but heaven during the frosty and windy winter!
The hotel’s position on Parliament Square (Austurvöllur) is unbeatable for exploring the capital on foot.
Proximity to famous Bus Stop 1: For those taking guided day/night tours or the airport shuttle (FlyBus), the hotel is just a 2-minute walk from Bus Stop 1 (Ráðhúsið), making departures incredibly easy and cost efficient.
Nearby Sights: You are just steps from the Alþingi (Iceland’s Parliament), the Reykjavik Cathedral (10min walk), and the peaceful Lake Tjörnin. The striking Harpa Concert Hall and the Reykjavik Harbour are also within a short 6-minute walk. Sun Voyager statue is ca. 9 mins walk away.
Premier Dining: Some of Reykjavik’s finest restaurants are essentially on your doorstep (less than 4 mins walk):
Apótek Kitchen + Bar: A stylish spot famous for its award-winning "pharmaceutical" cocktails and Icelandic-European fusion.
Fiskmarkaðurinn (The Fish Market): Renowned for its modern Icelandic cuisine with a creative Asian twist.
Grillmarkaðurinn (The Grill Market): A must-visit for high-end grilled meats and local delicacies like reindeer and lamb.
Sadly we did not use the SPA this time but we will be coming back soon, so we will not miss it then!
Diamond Benefits: Members often receive complimentary breakfast, spa access and access to the Executive Lounge on the 5th floor. Lounge offers quiet workspace and snacks & soft drinks with gorgeous panoramic city views.
The Iceland Curio Parliament Hotel does not have its own on-site parking due to its pedestrian-friendly location on Parliament Square, as well as due to security for Icelandic parliament. For your rental car, the most convenient and recommended options are from my point of view:
Ráðhúsið (City Hall) Parking Garage: This is the most popular choice for guests, I believe, as it is an underground, secure facility located just a 2-minute walk from the hotel.
Cost (as per 3/2026): Rates are typically around $28 for 24 hours.
Hours: Open daily from 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
Note that the gates are locked overnight, so you cannot retrieve your car between midnight and 7:00 AM.
P1 Street Parking: Very expensive, rare spots. I believe they charge 650 ISK per hour, more for quick short term parking.
P2 Street Parking (Tjarnargata): Located along the Tjörnin pond, these spots are about a block and a half away.
Cost (as per3/2026): Approximately ca. $2.60 (370 ISK) per hour during enforced times.
Tip: Street parking is generally free from 6:00 PM (or 9:00 PM in some zones) until 9:00 AM the next day, and on Sundays.
P3 Parking Zones: Found a few blocks away from hotel in the nearby residential neighborhoods, these zones are much cheaper than P1/P2 and often free on weekends but then again residents will park here when they are home so not always parking available or you have to circle around a bit. Patients is a virtue, relax you are in Iceland!
Traðarkot Parking Garage: Located at Hverfisgata 20, this is another central multi-story option that uses license plate recognition for easy payment.
Pro-Tip: Download the Parka app or the EasyPark app to pay for both street and garage parking directly from your phone. This way you avoid staying in the cold in winter at the parking machine ...:). Both parking apps work in any parking lot/garage in Iceland per number plate recognition."
