Vassilikos Holidays

An unspoilt rural paradise

The rural community of Vasilikos is a collection of small villages in the south of Zante, located on a peninsula that runs from the town of Argasi down to Gerakas beach – best known as the nesting site for rare loggerhead turtles. The area is a beacon of unparalleled natural beauty, encompassing Mount Skopos, pristine beaches backed by fragrant pine forest and quiet coves that are home to diverse wildlife.

Vasilikos holidays are ideal for adventurous types looking to experience unspoilt Greece and turn their hand to outdoor pursuits, such as horse riding or hiking in the mountains. For dinner and drinks, the coast is lined with beach bars and tavernas serving traditional Greek dishes, such as lamb ‘gyros’ (sliced rotisserie meat) and Kasseri cheese (a traditional sheep and goats’ milk cheese). Wash it down with Verdea wine, produced in local vineyards. Holidays to Vasilikos will appeal to families, couples and travellers looking to escape the busier tourist-trap resorts.

Your Vasilikos questions, answered

Vasilikos is known for being quieter than some resorts, although there are bars and tavernas along the beaches hosting live music. For a livelier vibe, head to Laganas or Zante Town.
One of the best things about Vasilikos is that you have a choice of beaches. Some of the best include Banana Beach, St Nicholas, Gerakas and Dafni.
Like most of Greece, temperatures in Vasilikos don’t usually drop below 30°C in the summer months. If you prefer cooler weather, visit the island in May or September.
