Porto Planos Beach Hotel

"Firstly, we had read the reviews after booking 🙈. We were somewhat disappointed with what we read. There were a lot of highly negative reviews. So when we arrived, we didn’t have any expectations. I have to say, the hotel and our experience were fabulous. I am quite fussy and I wasn’t phased. There were some negatives. The shower in the room was subpar; I have long hair and it took ages to wash, as the water pressure was weak. However, as soon as we mentioned this, they fixed it for us. There were a few other points, such as the decor/cleanliness of the bathroom weren’t perfect, but I just wore flip flops in the shower, which solved any issue. A couple of plugs/outlets were hanging off the wall too, but again, these are minor details. The beds were ok, we are used to a very good quality mattress at home, so anything other, we notice a difference. That being said we slept well. The air conditioning was very welcome and much needed. We blasted it all day on the lowest setting, so the room was lovely and cool whilst we got ready to go out on an evening. Then for bed we turned it up a little, so we weren’t too cold. Having to go to Planos Beach Hotel for all our food was annoying, but expected, as we were forewarned about this. The food was good, I am very fussy and have allergies so I have to be very careful. I was fine, thankfully. One night my partner accidentally ate tuna (I’m severely allergic) due to lack of information on the dish. The beautiful, young dark haired lady on reception was very helpful. We received an apology and they gave us a top tier drink each, by way of a further apology. Thankfully, I was fine, but we were appreciative of their attentiveness. They ensured the signage was on all dishes from then on. We’d like to give special thanks to Kacper and Eri. Their banter, kindness and drink pouring skills were exceptional. They both literally made the holiday. We spent a couple of hours at the bar on an evening and had good craic with them both. They are brilliant with customers, and deserve a raise! The location of the hotel was great. So close to the beach and we found an excellent cafe on the beach, that served iced coffee frappes for about €3. The sea was superb and the beach was lovely and clean. It was also close to many shops, bars and restaurants. It was a further 15 minute walk to even more bars and restaurants. We spent a late evening in Magdalena’s but most of it is a blur 🤣 Overall, we were really pleased with our stay. We’d probably stay in future, even though we usually never stay in the same place twice. We’d maybe book the Planos Beach Hotel, just to make it slightly easier. We just used the other hotel to get ready and to sleep in. We had a great time and didn’t understand all the 1* reviews!"

"Do not book this hotel unless you are prepared to be shipped off to one of the sister hotels in the bus that usually carries the dirty laundry! That is exactly what happened to us when we arrived this August. The receptionist signed us in, registered us at the Porto Planos, took our tourist tax and passport numbers; only then did she inform us that the room we had booked and paid for through Tui was not available! The reason given was a fault with the drains. We were then assured that there was transport from the other hotel back to the one we had booked, whenever we needed it, and that we could come back to use the facilities when ever we liked! This was an outright lie! This transport did not exist, and the receptionist at the hotel we were sent to looked baffled! On contacting Tui, our travel company, they apparently knew nothing of this arrangement and thought that we were at Porto Planos! “Luckily” a room was found the following day. There was considerable confusion on arrival back at Porto planos, which involved carrying our suitcases to a room in the main hotel, which looked promising, only to be told it wasn’t our room after all, when the key card did not work!. We were finally guided back down the street to another building above a supermarket and to room 412 next to the noisy elevator shaft. We then discovered the safety box did not work so waited whilst that was repaired. We had booked a room with a balcony , but the one attached to this room is barely big enough for one person, let alone a couple and there was no where to hang wet swimming costumes etc. Part way through the week the bathroom lights stopped working properly but we didn’t want to waste any more of our holiday dealing with the hotel staff and waiting for a repair! Or possibly another relocation! The hotel told Tui that as a good will gesture we would be given All inclusive. However, this was not the case on arrival. When we went to the bar we were told that this was not available to us as we had the wrong wrist bands! This was embarrassing ! Only after yet another visit to the receptionist was the rectified. This experience is not the warm welcome we have been used to on our many previous visits to Greece. We were left feeling that the people running this place are at best disorganised, if not down right deceitful! We did not make use of the all inclusive as we felt very uncomfortable at this hotel. We did however make use of the many wonderful and friendly restaurants close by!"
