Petalidi Holidays

A peek into quiet Greek life

Find a little pocket of Greece to call your own – Petalidi is an under-the-radar spot on the east coast of the Peloponnese. It’s a seafront village that overlooks the Argolic Gulf and its sun-faded, terracotta-roofed buildings rise gently up a hillside and are arranged around a grid of streets where you’ll happen upon tavernas and souvenir shops.

The smooth pebble beach might not scream traditional Greek beach vibes, but you’ll soon find it’s a gorgeous spot to sip a coffee quietly – particularly if you’re an early riser and can take full advantage of the sunrise. If you’ve got a longer beach day in mind, you don’t have to venture far to find sandier options. Try Velika, a little north of Petalidi. Or if you’re looking for a knockout Blue Flag beach, you could head to Kalamata and make a day of it, exploring the food market and ruins when you’re ready for a break from the sun.

Your Petalidi questions, answered

Expect gloriously sunny weather with very little rainfall during the peak summer months. Temperatures peak in the early 30s in August.

Look out for local restaurants and cafes serving the region’s favourites, including diples, a honey-drizzled pastry treat.
The Peloponnese is a gorgeous area, so it’s worth hiring a car to explore beaches and waterfalls over on the west coast, less than an hour away.
