Kyparissia Holidays

Golden beaches and gorgeous sunsets

Spread across a hill that slopes towards turquoise waters, Kyparissia is a charming seaside town in Greece’s Peloponnese. It's just a short wander to Ai Lagoudis Beach, where palapas and sun loungers are set out across golden sands. A few kilometres up the coast is the longer and quieter but equally sandy Kartelas Beach, lapped by clear water.

On the slopes above the old town are the remains of an ancient Byzantine castle, the Castle of Kyparissia, also known as the Castle of Arcadia. Surrounded by cypress trees and greenery, you’ll get fabulous views of the sea and scenery from up here, and it’s a vantage point that helped previous occupants spot incoming pirates.

Kyparissia is a handy base for day trips to Kalamata (famous for its olives) and Olympia (which hosted the first Olympic Games). Balance your time delving into Greece’s history with reclining on the beach or beside the pool with a good book in hand. When dusk settles, linger outside to enjoy the sunset – Kyparissia’s west coast spot means it has a prime location watching the sun sink behind the sea.

Sure is. Kyparissia has a Byzantine castle and 8 kilometres northeast of the town, the Peristeria Archaeological Site contains Mycenaean remains.
Expect everything from fresh seafood and olives to succulent lamb dishes and aromatic Mediterranean herbs. Try moussaka, souvlaki, and feta cheese, and sample the local olive oil and honey.
Glorious! The golden sand beach of Ai Lagoudis is around 250 metres long and you can try watersports or join in beach games.
