Makis Hotel

"Set on the seafront at Skala, this mid-range hotel caters to many holidaymakers mostly from Europe and especially from the UK (while we were there anyway). There is a decent sized swimming pool, a bar/restaurant next to it and a reception area with the breakfast room above it. Breakfasts are buffet style with hot and cold options. The accommodation is in two main blocks each of three floors. We were in a top floor room which is probably preferable to the ground floor for privacy unless you have mobility issues - there are no lifts in the accommodation blocks. The room itself was bright and airy with French windows opening onto a balcony furnished with table and chairs. There was no settee in the room but there were two single chairs. The bed was comfortable and the shower, while quite small, had a strong and constant flow although the sink was slow to drain. The staff were generally cheerful especially the cleaners and the breakfast staff. There was some building work going on during the day which got a bit annoying sometimes. On the beach across the road there were pitches but we didn't use them so can't comment on whether they are free for use to guests. The hotel bar/restaurant is limited in what it serves but what it does serve is good. It closes for food around 9pm but there are many decent tavernas in the centre of the village a few minutes' walk away."

"Great second visit to the Makis. It is a charming hotel, immaculately kept and feels so comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are spacious and modern. The pool and bar area is lovely with views out to sea - plenty of sunbeds. The beach area with sunbeds is great too with attentive service. Staff are efficient and friendly. We never usually return to destinations because we like to go to new places but Skala and the Makis draws you back - such a lovely place."

"Good location and furnished modern After research in January of this year this looked like a great hotel to stay in -5 nights minimum at the end of our island hopping I thought this would be a nice final relaxing stay. I booked a triple room for 3 adults as our daughter of 13 is classed as an adult it advises to book direct for best rates and offered a discount for paying immediately which I did right at the beginning of January. I emailed requesting a good sized room. On arrival the room was really dissatisfying. The size didn’t seem ample for 3 with the bed in the walk way. The balcony was small for 2 on and only mugs - towels for 2. I called reception straight away to say the room which was 307 was not what I expected and requested a room change. I was told no rooms available. They brought extra stuff up to the room and an extra chair for the balcony but then you couldn’t close the shutters or move around. You’re also so close to your neighbours you’re practically touching them of all of you are on the balcony. We love to spend time on the balcony as a family playing cards etc but that didn’t happen at all. No other rooms available apparently not for any of our stay. But most of the other rooms have larger balconies and a lot were only accommodating 2 people. Totally not worth paying direct so many months in advance. You have to pay for sunbeds on the beach which is a bit frustrating as there aren’t always enough round the pool €15 for 2 with 2 small bottles of water included. We still enjoyed our stay in skala bur would never book makis again as a family. They gave us a bottle of wine and an apology on a card but really not worth it at all. - I would advise not to book direct or stay as a family in room 307. Breakfast is on the first floor and is far too crammed for the amount of people and also very warm! They really should have it in the bar area which is one of the nicest parts of the hotel"
