"First thing to say, this was our 7th visit to Kefalonia, however our first time in an All inclusive hotel here. We got an amazing offer from TravelOdeal £1200 a week for two with flights All inclusive, how could we say no!!!
Overall we had a lovely stay at Apostolata Island resort, however I would not class it as a 5 star hotel, I would say a good 4 star. The views are absolutely stunning, we up graded our room to a sea view which was an extra 20 euro a night. Our room had recently been renovated and had a wonderful view so well worth it. In my opinion the reception staff didn't give enough information regarding the hotel facilities at check in, I was only aware of certain aspects as I joined a FB page relating to the hotel.
Pools:
The main pool is absolutely humungous, its clean with lots of sunbeds and shades, so no need to get up at 5am and put your towels down. There are also a few sunbeds down near the sea, where you will find some steps allowing entry into the sea to swim and snorkel. There is also a small infinity pool at the back of the main bar in the lobby with a few sunbeds, this is attached to the private area of the swim up rooms.
Food:
All inclusive options I found generally good, some other reviews have complained that there was a limited choice and they had to pay for food, that's because this is not just an All inclusive hotel, so if you want something NOT on the All inclusive menus, yes you have to pay. I have to say we did NOT spend a penny at the hotel.... The main restaurant is not massive, but that's what made it charming, as there was more than enough variety and it was refreshed regularly and it was HOT... I do have to agree and disagree with other reviews, the attention in the main restaurant at breakfast was a bit lacking at times and the addition of a freshly made omelette station would have been nice. Overall food variety and quality was good. There is a snack bar by the pool, which has limited options for All In, pizza etc. If you want anything else you can pay extra. Yes it is true that All in customers do have to pay for lunch by the pool, between 12.30 -2ish. This is to encourage people to eat at the main restaurant, one day we were the only people, which was lovely, but a waste of food if no one eats there.
Drinks:
All In Bottles of water, soft drinks, beer, bottles of wine etc, there is a pic with menus attached.
Pool bar cocktails were OK and we never had to wait long for a drink, however the lady serving needs to smile more...
Cocktails and service at the main lobby bar excellent. If you want to take water, drinks, bottle of wine to your room just ask at the bar, nothing was a problem.
Drinks and service at lunch and dinner great, we asked for 2 glasses of wine and was given a bottle, and if you finish this you get another, water bottles in abundance just ask a member of staff any time of the day or night.
There is an Al acarte restaurant which you can visit as many times as you like, but you have to book at reception, this was wonderful highly recommend, we ate here 3 times. Tall waiter in main restaurant and Al Carte was lovely and very attentive, its a shame we didn't get his name.
Tips you may not know, or was not told at reception:
You can get towels and safe key from reception, no extra charge.
There is a shuttle bus frequently to Skala, first come first served, info in reception. The shuttle also goes to Poros, but only once a day and needs to be booked at reception.
The hotel has a lot of steps and is on a hill, however there is a buggy you can try and grab to take you around.
Excursions advertised in reception look good value for money.
If you intend to hire a car, which I recommend, pick it up from the airport, apparently it can take 2.5 hrs to reach the hotel with a transfer.
The hotel s only a 45/50 min drive, taxi approximately 70 Euro each way.
Car hire from airport Pefanis or Greekstone, amazing companies, full comprehensive insurance, no deposits needed up front.
Scooter hire, Velox, ( this is our choice of transport, booked and picked up at the airport, but that does limit your luggage).
Get out and explore this beautiful island, it will capture your heart!!!
