Kefalonia holidays

A sleepy sun-soaked village

Katelios holidays are the perfect combination of turquoise sea, pretty, colourful houses and traditional tavernas – what better way to discover this delightful, peaceful corner of Kefalonia? Located on the southwest coast of the island, Katelios is part fishing village, part laid-back holiday resort, with several long stretches of pristine beach lapped by azure water. It’s a place to rejuvenate and relax rather than get in some serious party time, so you don’t stay here for the nightlife.

But there is a clutch of bars with outdoor terraces for soaking up the views, and the restaurants are excellent, with tavernas serving traditional dishes and the catch of the day. And if you need more of a night out, the buzzy town of Scala is just a 10-minute taxi ride away. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends or your partner, holidays to Katelios are fantastic for completely switching off and indulging in the warm Greek sunshine.

Your Katelios questions, answered

It’s a great spot for families who are happy without a huge range of activities on the doorstep – the joy here is swimming, snorkelling and building endless sandcastles.
It’s a perfect spot for hikers, too. The hills that lead down to the beaches are criss-crossed with hiking trails, winding past lemon and olive groves and the crumbling ruins of churches.
You’d be fine without one, as there’s a twice-daily bus service to the capital of Argostoli, and some of the south’s bigger towns can be easily reached by taxi.

Best things to do in Katelios

Read a good book

Nothing beats lazing on either of Katelios’s beautiful stretches of beach while getting stuck into a really good book with a soundtrack of gently lapping waves.

Go fishing

This is a fishing village, after all. If you’re keen to have a go yourself, just venture to the rocky area at Agia Varvara beach.

Relax in a beach bar

Whether it’s an ice-cold local beer, a fruity daiquiri or a strong Greek coffee, you’ll want to enjoy it in one of Katelios’s breezy outdoor bars.
