Aegean Pearl Hotel

"There is much that is positive, and little that is negative, to report. However, the negative aspect is serious and casts a shadow. First of all, the staff is predominantly incredibly friendly (especially toward children), likable, and very eager to help. The location of the hotel is very good (at the end of the beach road and a good starting point for planning your vacation well with your rental car). There was room cleaning every day, even if you unfortunately did not want it. Although we signaled with a card that we did not want service, we came back to the room in the evening after an excursion and towels were missing, the bed was made, and trash was disposed of. Our complaint at the reception regarding the missing towels was hardly of interest; without a word, new ones were brought to us later. The bad thing now: from 10/02 - 10/04 there were severe storms on Crete, especially in Rethymno. As a result, the groundwater or drinking water supply was likely contaminated by the flooding. There were (confirmed by media) an unspeakably high number of gastrointestinal or norovirus cases in Rethymno and especially in the Aegean Pearl or Pearl Beach. However, the hotel management did not inform the guests about this (an increase in cleaning in the restaurant and bar area was not noticeable). Staff members were walking around with masks and many guests were eating dry bread; the reception gave out free water and cola to guests, but there was not a single notice or information point with information for the guests on how the hotel was responding to this sudden outbreak of illness. This was irresponsible. And there was also a lifeguard for the pools. But how a lifeguard is supposed to save people at or in the pool or recognize an emergency when they spend the whole day in the closed snack bar area or in the hotel lobby is a mystery to me. In general, the Aegean Pearl is a very good hotel, but it does not justify 5 stars. The offerings in the hotel and the quality of the buffet were not high enough for that. The staff (except for the grumpy (German) travel representative) deserves 5 stars due to their great dedication (especially Maryna and Poppi)."

"We are totally thrilled with this beautiful hotel right on the beach. Everything just fits..... Breakfast, dinner, staff, and location, simply everything TOP !!!!! Beach loungers and beach towels free of charge. Particularly worth mentioning is the young lady who takes care of the loungers and the drinks on the beach. Simply mega !!!!! Super friendly and fast. We will come back, in any case."
