If you’re in need of some rest and relaxation and you’re searching for a place where you can really switch off, look no further. Everything moves at a more chilled out pace in St George South – a laidback spot on Corfu’s southwest coast.
The town comes with a selection of bars, cafes and tavernas on its pretty waterfront, not to mention two spectacular stretches of sand. The beaches are a pretty pair – one is backed by dunes while the other is tucked between impressive sandstone cliffs. Nature has been working its magic on the outskirts of the town, too. The landscape surrounding St George South is blanketed by olive groves, freckled with just a handful of pocket-sized villages.
St George South makes a great base for daytrips, too. You’ll find a Byzantine fort within a 10-minute drive, and you can be in Corfu Town – the island’s capital – in just over half an hour. This modern capital has a hefty to-do list. You can shop ‘til you drop, wander through the UNESCO-listed old town or soak up the atmosphere in one of the lively squares. It’s all in a day’s work…
Try out both of the town's beaches
St George South is home to not one, but two stretches of sand. They’re both Blue Flag beaches and unravel along the coast for an impressive six kilometres.
Take a day trip to Corfu Town
You can reach the island’s capital within a 35-minute drive, which leaves you with the rest of the day to explore the town’s two Venetian fortresses and boutique shops.
Stroll through the olive groves
Wander along one of the many trails through the olive groves and stop off for a picnic, or carry on until you get to Argirades, where you’ll have sweeping views along the coast.
