"Let me preface this review by saying we had not initially booked the Mythos Panorama. We had arrived late at the Sandy beach resort, and were not thrilled with the room we were given, nor the general resort, I won’t detail much further as this is a review of the Mythos resort, and not sandy beach. In the morning, we asked how much to upgrade to a higher quality room, and the front desk receptionist quickly advised they will move us to their sister property, 5* and newly opened, free of charge. We gratefully accepted and can say that every member of staff we encountered at both Sandy Beach and Mythos were exceptional and work incredibly hard.
Now, onto the review of the Mythos Palace/panorama. We were transferred privately by a member of staff between the two hotels. Considering Mythos did not have long to prepare for our arrival, check in was relatively swift and the gentleman who checked us in was informative and told us all about the facilities. We were then taken to our room in the Panorama (752) by golf cart and the concierge helped us into our room with our luggage, a real nice touch. Once we got into our room we were blown away, incredibly clean, amazing views, great amenities in the room and a comfy bed! Beautiful large terrace overlooking the resort out towards the sea.
The main dining hall was pretty hit and miss for lunch and dinner, and I felt most things were random and struggled to put a meal together that made sense without it being just random bits of food on a plate. Breakfast was pretty consistent, however did lack variety for some. I am a creature of habit in the mornings so this worked fine for me. I was grateful for the three evening meals at the al a carte restaurants, as this did break up the week and with it being end of the season and a relatively secluded area, there wasn’t much around elsewhere. The Italian restaurant was excellent with delicious pizzas. What we did not know was that lunch at the Italian restaurant was also included as part of the all inclusive for Panorama guests. We also ate lunch 2-3 times at the Olea beach restaurant, we loved the pork gyros and Greek salads. Great food and great staff at all Al a carte restaurants. The rooftop bar and restaurant also provided a very special sunset dinner for myself and my partner.
The resort is based on a mountain, so naturally the terrain was hilly. You can request a golf cart to take you anywhere around the resort and we never waited more than 5 minutes. The beach is a short walk downhill, to a pebble beach with beautiful clear waters and an array of fish to observe if snorkelling is your thing. We spent most of the week at the beach as this is our preference, but the pools were freezing cold anyway so it was warmer to get into the ocean. There was as a hut on the beach which provided basic drinks such as cola, Fanta and iced coffees. The gentleman who worked there was great!
We were grateful that we never encountered the usual “sun bed wars” at any of the pools or the beach, however this may be different during the high season.
Housekeeping was a little hit and miss. There were occasions where the milk, towels and loo roll were not replenished, however the room was always clean and the bed linen changed.
I visited the spa for a massage, I paid €85 for a massage and some Cretan massage oil to take away. This is a little more than I’d spend on a massage at home, but it was a lovely treat and helped me relax into my holiday and switch off, as we both have quite stressful jobs, it can take a few days to wind down.
We recommend visiting the Messonghi travel centre (just 2 minute walk down the road), we paid €35 each for an incredible day trip by boat to the blue lagoon and village of Sivota on mainland Greece. I highly recommend and this was a real highlight of our holiday.
Lots of reviews say this isn’t 5*, and I’d agree if you’re comparing it to “the white lotus” standard of 5*. In areas the finish wasn’t great, but this really had no impact on our enjoyment. The staff around the resort really did give us 5* treatment.
Overall, we absolutely loved the Mythos Panorama. The staff and views make this place what it is. The feedback given is in no way a complaint, just constructive feedback so the hotel can be even better. I’d love to return in the future."
