Alonissos Beach Bungalows & Suites

"We are two couples in our late 60's and stayed at The Alonissos Beach Bungalows in early September. We stayed in the Classic Double Bungalow and this was more than adequate for our needs. The room was extremely clean, very spacious and had a nice balcony with a view through the trees to the sea. The hotel is situated on the side of a hill so the walk to the main building for breakfast is a bit steep, we could manage it but golf buggies are readily available for anybody with mobility problems. Breakfast was included, this was served in the main building but outside, it was lovely with fantastic views over the bay. There was plenty of choice and a chef on hand to make an omelette. In the evenings this same area doubles as the hotel restaurant. We ate there once and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. However we did feel the staff could have done more to detract the cats from trying to reach the food on the table especially as one or our party was eating fish. The swimming pool was clean , although we did not think it was heated. We ventured down to the beach mostly which was beautiful and had free sunbeds. The water was warm and so clear. Just above the beach is a snack bar and we ate there several times, club sandwiches etc. Extremely good value for money and delicious. The hotel itself is in a remote area, we hired a car for a day, arranged by the hotel, and this gave us the opportunity to visit the old town ,Kora, Partitri and Steni Vala. The roads are very quiet and easy to get around even if you are not used to driving abroad. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend."

"Just spent 3 nights here and wow what place I can honestly say this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. We didn't book a transfer but noticed the mini bus from the hotel at the port and he offered us a lift for 10 euros. The staff here are so lovely. The guy who drives round giving people lifts up and down to the beach was amazing a real credit to the hotel. The rooms my god what a view they are big spacious fridge and towels changed daily. Restaurant and pool bar great and well priced. The beach is the best part of this hotel. We rented a boat and visited every beach from the north of the island to here and it is by far the best we visited. They even have a beach bar that serves you on your sunbed. The only negative is that it is slightly isolated so will need a car or taxi to get into town but we knew this when we booked. A quick phone call from reception for a taxi and 15 euros each way so worked out cheaper than renting a car for us. 100% we will be returning"

"First the positives. The views are incredible, the beach is the best sandy beach in Alonissos, the pool is large and the staff are friendly But there it ends. How this hotel keeps a 4 star rating beats me. The beds are the most uncomfortable you can find. My son asked if they were made by an ironing board company. Why not invest in mattress toppers for them all? And change the bed linen and towels every three days rather than every day. You’d make back the money saved on cleaning linen within 6months. The dining area floor is filthy, with bird droppings and during our whole time there (5days) was not cleaned once. Yet by the pool next-door the floor was cleaned every day. There was no sign of any manager. The breakfast was very poor, with completely undrinkable coffee, (which has been mentioned in multiple reviews but hasn’t been sorted) meats that were processed and looked vile, some good things, but not enough fruit and only chopped melon who has the skin still on, the rest was in a bowl, very sparse and all unripe. Even the Greek yoghurt, which is hard to get wrong, was unappealing. We did eat there one evening and the food was good with excellent service ie, but the wine list was dreadful. But the restaurant didn’t open until 8pm, which was fine for us, but given the hotel was full of children seems to exclude a large part of their clientele. The beach is stunning but not kept today. In the morning the rubbish bins aren’t emptied until later, no one tidies and cleans the sunbeds and puts them back in a row. Many of the sunbeds on the beach were broken- why aren’t they taken away and / or replaced? again that’s been mentioned so many times in reviews- doesn’t the management read the reviews or do they just not care? The air conditioning in our room was noisy, and the wifi didn’t work or barely worked there. The gym was full of machines that didn’t work. The carpark was full of old sunbeds and junk. If someone got a grip and invested some money/ managed the place efficiently, it could be a great option to stay, but as it is it just reeks of lack of care and management."
