A bay made for barefoot days
Think postcard-perfect. Chrisi Milia is Alonissos’ softest, golden-sand bay, a calm horseshoe with shallow, glassy water made for lazy swims and long, lizard-like sunbathing. It’s a quick hop from Patitiri and close to whitewashed Old Town (Chora) for sunset strolls and cute tavernas. Families love the gentle entry, paddlers and snorkellers love the rock gardens at either end, while everyone loves how unhurried it feels.
Between dips, hire a kayak, try a SUP lesson, or boat out into the National Marine Park to be at one with nature – if you’re lucky, you might just spot some dolphins and monk seals. Grab a snorkel to see what else is down below and explore the sapphire coves. On guided trips, you can even see Alonissos’ famous protected wreck sites.
And when you’re not in the water? Hit the pine-scented trails. Way-marked paths zigzag through maquis and olive groves to viewpoints over the Marine Park – perfect for sunrise walkers and golden-hour photographers. Rent e-bikes to freewheel coastal lanes to Tzortzi Gialos, or head inland past tiny chapels and terrace farms where cicadas provide the soundtrack.
In Chora, poke around craft boutiques, tiny galleries and a folklore corner, then linger over island cheeses, honey and oven-warm pies. Prefer a mindful morning? Join a yoga class under the pines, or book a herbal walk to learn about wild oregano, sage and thyme. Evenings are for slow food and slower conversations – think fresh fish at a beachfront taverna, a scoop of masticha gelato, and stargazing on the sand. Simple, sun-kissed Greek summer – done beautifully on land and sea.
