"I am a lone, female traveller, in my 30s, I have travelled to Munich for work for 17 years and know the City well. I have not once in that time felt unsafe in this city until my stay at this property.
I would like to preface the statement by saying that what comes next is not the fault of the front of house staff, in this situation they did the best that they could, and afterwards especially, the girls the guys they were amazing but the way in which the management have dealt with this situation is abysmal.
I had went downstairs to extend my stay, an extra night I work in Munich a couple of times a month for a fee days to a week at a time and my time scales had changed. I paid an extra €131 to extend my stay until Saturday morning.
I do not want to share the exact details of the story because I do not want to be identifiable on the Internet to this individual. However, a male, who was not a guest, had managed to circumvent the staff and use the gym as if he were a guest, approached me and made sexual advances and inappropriate comments towards me, he managed to obtain, without my consent, my full name and mobile number as he was sitting so close to me and I could not remove him. He literally had me blocked into my seat no way out.
He was also speaking inappropriately to minors who were also within the bar area.
This man was clearly suffering from a mental illness.
No decision was taking taken by management to call the police and I was too shaken that I left at the first available opportunity and stayed in my room for the rest of the day, where a member of staff could only tell me that this man was not welcome to return to the hotel with no concern for the immediate surrounding area and what that would mean for me as a lone female, with quite a striking appearance, being left to fend for myself, with no help from the hotel, who made no effort to stop a non-guest using their gym facilities, intimidating people in their coworking space and left it all to their overstretched front of house staff to deal with.
There was no attempt at reputational preservation, or assistance, or even a willingness to involve the police. Quite frankly, I got the impression that management didn’t want the paperwork
So, instead I will warn fellow women so that they can decide whether they want the risk of staying here alone or with their children to which this man was a predator.
I felt unsafe I have to get the U-Bahn to Work and this man had not been spoken to by the police only told to leave the hotel but could be anywhere in the surrounding area.
I was completely dismissed by the management. The front of house staff were wonderful and I cannot fault them, the girl in the morning was excellent, Niko accompanied me to my Uber fantastic, the bartender who gave me enough time to get to my room, I feel like I owe him my safety.
As you can imagine, I needed to move away from this property for my safety.
That brings me to your management, I spoke to you today. Absolutely dreadful and took no accountability only stating it was a public lobby and not the hotels concern.
He advised me that he could only refund me my €131 for the additional night I’d booked.
I had to pay €40 to get to work, as I did not feel safe enough to walk to the U-Bahn.
€289 for the additional two days accommodation at their sister Property.
€39 in cab costs to reach this property.
No refund for Thursday night, even though I packed my bags and left my key for you to remove them to the bag of room.
I’ve paid this People twice on Thursday, essentially. My safety, treated as a luxury and a choice.
The best the manager could tell me is that he thinks I “probably” would’ve been okay. Respectfully, that was much easier for him to say as a man who had not been harassed, objectified and advanced upon by a mentally ill individual.
I wasn’t willing to risk my life on a probably.
Some things that you should consider if you are a lone, female traveller and considering staying at this hotel.
Staffing is kept to the absolute bare minimum, and I watched on a number of occasions where the front of house staff were doing their best, but we’re completely swamped, this man would perhaps not have been able to intimidate me as much if there had been more staff available.
The property is entirely open, meaning that, members of the public can reach their apartments without the need for a key. You can go up and down the halls and the stairwells all day long you could linger there while if you’d like there’s even seating and you do not need to be a guest to be able to do so. Anybody can frequent the hallways and there’s not enough staff to supervise it.
There is no locks on the entrance doors at night time and they open freely, there is no controlled entrance.
The hallways leading to the apartments are incredibly dark and it can take several moments from leaving your apartment for the lights to come on.
It is clear from this incident that you may encounter non-guests and the psychiatrically unstable in the gym or in the sauna or perhaps in the pool.
The front of house staff will help you as far as they have the bandwidth but they are often run off their feet.
The management will dismiss any responsibility. They have to keep you safe as a guest, God forbid you should be in Germany for the first time, I am lucky but I’m an experienced traveller here.
I’ll never stay at another Locke Property again and I welcome any senior management who wished to reach out to me to discuss this matter further."
