Hip hotel in Hammerbrook

This modern hotel is located in the up-and-coming district of Hammerbrook, an area criss-crossed with canals and contemporary architecture. Conveniently, it’s only a 20-minute walk from the sights of Hamburg’s historic centre. As with other niu hotels, a young local artist has been tasked with decorating the interior – in this case, taking cues from this port city’s maritime heritage. Bright murals fill the spaces with an irresistibly vibrant energy.

The heart of the hotel is its ‘living lobby’, a communal open plan area where you can soak up the trendy vibes, maybe with a drink or a bite to eat. A sumptuous buffet breakfast is served from 6.30-10.30am during the week, and 7-11.30am at the weekends. Fancy an afternoon aperitif? If you want to spend a couple of peaceful hours on the water, this is the place to do it.

    This architectural masterpiece instantly became a global icon when it opened in 2017. Perched atop of an old warehouse, the striking glass structure and undulating rooftop contains a state-of-the-art concert hall that can seat over two-thousand people. It’s under 30 minutes from the hotel by public transport, so grab yourself a ticket to a performance you’re unlikely to forget.

    If you’re in town over the weekend, you won’t want to miss this Hamburg institution. Under 30 minutes from the hotel by train, this market has been pulling in the crowds every Sunday since 1703. As the name suggests, there’s plenty of fresh seafood to tuck into, but there’s much more than just fish on offer. You’ll discover stalls selling fruits, vegetables, flowers and clothes, alongside delicious breakfasts and live jazz.
