Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten

"This hotel had been on our bucket list for a long time, as it is widely regarded as one of the best city hotels in Germany. The location is indeed excellent, and the service we received was truly impeccable. Furthermore, the public spaces are exquisitely appointed and meticulously maintained. However, we found the guest rooms to be underwhelming. While our Deluxe Room was immaculately clean, the the overall decor felt dated rather than special. Having recently stayed at other exceptional historic properties like the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park or the Mandarin Oriental Luzern, we felt that the rooms here could benefit from an update to meet the contemporary standards expected of a modern 5-star plus luxury hotel. Also keep in mind that the standard rooms are really tiny. Additionally, we found it surprising that despite the hotel's affiliation with Fairmont, our ALL Accor loyalty status was not recognized. While we are glad to have finally experienced the property, we will likely explore other options for our next visit."

"The hotel is still nice, but very old fashioned and in dire need of a full closure and renovation. They basically have to do what Mandarin Oriental did in Zurich, take the old fashioned rooms and turn two into one new standard 5 star plus room. We had a supposedly deluxe, terrace room overlooking the lake, but the whole room had the size of a normal Mandarin Oriental or Rosewood bathroom. I haven’t stayed in such a small room in a long time. Another strange thing is the arrogance with which they refuse to acknowledge any Fairmont status or participation in the points system. They have basically no real competition in the luxury field in Hamburg and that clearly shows, they lost all touch to the modern standards of 5 star plus. The service of the mostly young staff is excellent and is clear link between the once glorious past of the hotel and the presence. I hosted in a dinner for 11 in the Grill and the atmosphere, the food, the wine list and the service was truly impeccable, but of course for that you don’t have to stay in the hotel. Overall a pleasant stay, but far from he expectations and like Germany in general not top notch any more and strongly living of past glory."

"We booked two Deluxe Rooms overlooking the Alster, at a total cost of €4,640.98 (rooms only) for three nights. We naturally assumed that two rooms sold under exactly the same category would be reasonably comparable in size and standard. To our considerable surprise, rooms 308 and 309, which are directly next to each other, were dramatically different in size — with one room approximately 30% larger than the other. When we questioned this, we were simply told that they were both classified as “Deluxe Rooms.” In other words, apparently the Four Seasons has decided that rooms with a substantial difference in size can nevertheless be sold under exactly the same category, with no explanation, no meaningful distinction and, most importantly, no disclosure to the guest. Simply not acceptable, the guest should be informed of that big difference when making the booking. What makes the situation even more unacceptable is that when we raised the matter again at checkout, instead of receiving a serious explanation or an appropriate gesture of compensation, we were given a smile and a small box containing four chocolate bites. Frankly, I found this response almost insulting. I would have expected the management to take a legitimate customer complaint seriously and acknowledge that there was a genuine discrepancy in what we reasonably understood we were purchasing. The response we received gave us the distinct impression that the hotel simply did not care. Very arrogant! TIP: If you have to choose for the same price, book room 309 and not 308"
