Unique rooftop retreat in Frankfurter Allee
You’ll struggle to find another hotel as unique as the niu Hide – the world’s first modular hotel to be placed on top of a shopping mall. The walls are adorned with funky artwork inspired by the old German Democratic Republic, and there are quirky pieces of furniture and retro touches throughout. You’ll be right on top of the Frankfurter Allee station too, making getting around the city a doddle.
The hotel’s ‘living lobby’ is an open plan lounge space where you can grab a drink and a bite to eat, or just catch up with friends before you head out. Check out the graffiti-tagged Trabant sculpture for a real taste of East Berlin’s past. Delicious hot and cold breakfast dishes are available every morning, with food served by the bar for the rest of the day. There’s even a 24-hour shop for drinks and snacks, so you know you’ll never go hungry.
High-speed wi-fi is available in every corner of the hotel, at no extra cost. Rooms feature a smart TV and an invisible Bluetooth sound system, so you can play your tunes even if you forgot to bring a speaker with you. After a busy day strolling the city streets, you’ll be glad to have a comfy bed in the niu Hide to return to.

What the niu Hide has to offer
East Side Gallery
With so much of the hotel inspired by Berlin’s divided past, a visit to this site is essential. Hop on a train and in under 30-minutes you’ll find this 1.3-kilometer stretch of the Berlin Wall, now serving as the world's longest open-air mural gallery. Situated along the Spree River, it's adorned with over 100 paintings, reflecting themes of freedom and hope. Created by international artists after the Wall's fall in 1989, it’s a vibrant testament to resilience that transforms a symbol of division into a powerful symbol of unity.
Checkpoint Charlie
A visit to the East Side Gallery goes hand in hand with a stop at this iconic landmark, which is 25 minutes from the hotel by public transport. Once the infamous crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, it’s now one of the most-photographed locations in the city.
Prenzlauer Berg
A 25-minute train journey from the hotel will take you to the tree-lined streets of Prenzlauer Berg. Once a focal point for East Berlin's dissident culture, Prenzlauer Berg has transformed into a trendy neighborhood brimming with cafes, boutiques, and galleries. The area is known for its vibrant nightlife and the Sunday flea market at Mauerpark, where you could easily spend a whole day hunting for bargains.
