Hotel Relais Saint Germain

"A wonderful stay from start to finish. The staff were fantastic - so kind and helpful throughout. The lift was a great addition, and the continental breakfast was lovely and fresh, especially the pastries, juice and coffee. The rooms were the highlight. They were huge, particularly by Parisian standards, and beautifully decorated, each one unique. The bathrooms were stunningly renovated with large showers. I'm so grateful to the staff for their kindness. I forgot some clothes on my way to the airport, and they kindly organised to have them delivered back to Ireland. They also surprised us with champagne to celebrate my graduation - a really thoughtful touch. The location is excellent, close to Notre Dame and the lovely streets of Saint-Germain. The adjoining restaurant was fantastic, with unique French cuisine at good prices, and it was a joy to sit outside in the square with a cocktail and watch the world go by. A huge thank you to Anna, Neela and all the lovely staff. We would definitely come back and highly recommend."

"We loved the hotel. The location is excellent for walking. We had two separate reservations for a trip that began in Paris and then also ended in Paris. Both rooms were great, and they were huge by Paris standards. It felt like a boutique, and everyone was lively except for the woman who serves breakfast. The breakfast is good, but the employee who serves breakfast is not friendly at all. She is actually terribly RUDE! Enter the breakfast area at your own risk. I had originally rated the hotel as good, but I had to downgrade the rating as I started replaying our experiences at breakfast everyday. The female employee who serves breakfast screamed at my wife who walked into the breakfast room at 7:18 because the employee was not ready yet. Screamed! I was about 30 seconds behind my wife walking down the stairs, and I heard her scream, but I could not hear what had happened. The employee was mad that my wife was standing in the doorway to the restaurant when she was not yet ready to serve, and she screamed that my wife so go sit in the lobby until she was ready. That was just one of many terrible experiences at breakfast. Anything we requested seemed like a real imposition to her. I also witnessed her screaming at another couple who had sat at a table for three rather than for two. It was a table in a cute corner that had a great window view. The couple did not know that was somehow a violation of her rules, but she blasted them. On our final morning, I skipped breakfast rather than dealing with her. My French is not great, but I did study it for years and lived in Cannes for a while many years ago. It was not a matter of not showing respect for cultural norms. We try hard to be respectful and polite. In short, the lady who serves breakfast was so terrible that it changed a wonderful hotel into one that feels overpriced. But, it is otherwise great."

"I've always wanted to try this place since it first opened many, many years ago. I finally did and was completely underwhelmed. First, the management - meh, not exactly warm and fuzzy, I mean it is Paris, I get it, but why be so glum? Second, the room, smelly, with a narrow staircase to get from the doorway to the main room (didn't expect it and I had a heavy bag with no offer of help), did I say smelly? can't tell if it was mildew or mold but a really gross smell permeated the place, and a wonky heating system. (it was turned off when I arrived, set to 30c which is like 90 something but even when I got it started it never got to more than 70 until the very last day when I returned to find it boiling), Third, crappy little elevator once took 15 minutes to arrive. Fourth, breakfast. You are given a tiny piece of cheese, some fatty ham, baguette, butter and a hard croissant. There are extras but you must be there early, I guess, to get fruit, yogurt or anything additional. Breakfast closes at 10:30 but everything is put away at 10:27. There are many nicer options in the neighborhood for the $$ (not at all cheap - even in the dead of january the small room was $450/night)... Hotel Buci, Prince de Conde, Hotel Odeon, Relais Christine, d'Aubusson, etc etc. Good luck"
