"The hotel’s name — Vieux Marais — is apt: almost everything about it feels old and dated. In some ways, that suits the atmosphere of old Paris. The location, however, is excellent, the beds are comfortable, and the air conditioning works well — a must during Paris summers. The rooms are small and spartan, with cracked paint, and are desperately in need of renovation. The reception desk also takes your room key every time you leave, which feels infantilizing. If you’re simply looking for a reasonably priced base from which to explore Paris, the hotel does the job. But if you want a hotel that gives you joy, there are other, more stylish options in the area."
